Before I became a tattooer I worked on a towboat pushing goods up and down the inland waterways. I saw bald eagles all the time, but one moment stuck with me.
We were tied off at a lock on the dam wall. Everything was still, calm water, quiet air, just eagles soaring ahead of us. Out of nowhere, this massive eagle dropped in front of me, snatched a fish out of the river and flew up into a nearby tree to eat.
It felt like something out of a nature documentary⦠except I was there, watching it happen in real life.
What makes it even better, my dad was on that same boat. He was the first mate, I was his deckhand. So not only did I get to witness something wild, I got to share it with him.
