Unpopular opinion 😬

I think we’ve optimized ourselves out of community.

The pendulum may have swung a little too far. People lose it when they’re inconvenienced by the very people they used to do life with.

And as a recovering people pleaser, I want to be clear: boundaries still matter. Deeply.

But I also think we’ve lost the art of asking for help… and offering it.

Community was never meant to be perfectly efficient, convenient, or frictionless.

Loving people, and allowing yourself to be loved by people…often requires inconvenience, vulnerability, patience, and practice.

Lately, I’ve been intentionally introducing friction back into my life. In small ways. Allowing myself to need people. Showing up for others. Exercising the muscle of what it takes to love and be loved in real community.

Don’t let discomfort or inconvenience keep you from connection.

Baked cookies and artisan bread today just because 😌

It was my first time making this kind of bread and half way through realized I didn’t have a Dutch oven 😅

So I used my medium cast iron skillet and put some water in a tray in the oven while it baked so the bread had some moisture to pull from and (kind of) mimic the environment of a Dutch oven. And it came out delicious! A little dense, but I’m tearing it up with my butter and jam I picked up from my Paris trip 😋

As I head into my busy season at work, I try to make a point to do activities that slow me down. This activity is one of my favorites because of the delicious reward 😉 and reminder that food tastes better when you make it yourself.

What activity slows you down?

5 simple changes I’m making in 2026

Lately I’ve been paying closer attention to what my body and spirit are asking for and these are a few quiet shifts I’m committing to.

1. Eating simpler foods. I don’t recover the same way I used to after heavy, energy-expensive meals, especially during busy workdays or travel. Simple feels supportive right now.

2. Scheduling joy on purpose. Hobbies, rest, and slower experiences matter. I traveled a lot in 2025, and those short 2–3 day trips can be exciting and exhausting. I’m learning to listen when my body wants more ease.

3. Taking exercise classes for my heart health. I still don’t love cardio 😅 but I’m realizing I show up better when someone else is guiding me.

4. Being more intentional with my evenings. I’m learning to end my days with the same care I give to how I start them.

5. Not forcing relationships. Some connections give energy, others quietly take it. I’m choosing to honor the difference.

Nothing dramatic. Just small, honest changes that feel more sustainable for who I am now 🤎

✨ Poets and writers are such precious gifts to the world.
They leave us with permanent words and ideas that forever shape generations even after they’re gone.

Nikki Giovanni was such a powerful force and I’m thankful to have experienced her before her passing.

I’m sharing some of my favorite quotes from her.
I hope some of these resonate with you 🤎
