The Research Foundation recently hosted our Community Grants Information Meeting, bringing together local organizations committed to expanding access to care and promoting health equity across the Kansas City community. Through both in-person and virtual sessions, participants learned more about our funding opportunities, application process, and how grants can help expand access to care and advance health equity.

Last year, we proudly awarded funding to 44 nonprofit partners—and now, the 2026 Community Grants cycle is officially open!

They shared the powerful impact of injury prevention education and the importance of reaching young people with life-saving messages about safe driving, passenger safety, and making responsible choices behind the wheel.

During their nearly 70 years of marriage, Dr. James M. Flynn and Francie Flynn built a life rooted in service, education, and generosity. Today, that legacy continues to touch lives throughout our community.

After Dr. Flynn’s passing in 2023, Francie and her family honored his lifelong commitment to healthcare by establishing the Dr. James M. Flynn Symposium Endowment through a transformational gift to The Research Foundation. This spring, we proudly hosted the inaugural Dr. James M. Flynn Symposium on Advancing Cancer Care for Primary Care Providers, bringing healthcare professionals together to strengthen cancer care across the Kansas City community.

Dr. Flynn dedicated more than 30 years to Research Medical Center and served on The Research Foundation Board of Directors for over two decades. His passion for medicine, education, and service continues through this meaningful endowment.

Thank you to Francie Flynn and the entire Flynn family for investing in the future of healthcare education and honoring Dr. Flynn’s extraordinary legacy.
