National Accessibility Week is often focused on physical barriers.

But accessibility is about more than buildings, sidewalks, or parking spaces.
At its heart, accessibility is about community.

It is about whether people can participate in everyday life.

Can they get to work?
Can they spend time with friends?
Can they access recreation, services, and opportunities?
Do they feel welcomed and included?

During a visit to The Whole Person, members of the eitas team had the opportunity to learn more about accessibility, independence, and community participation.

The experience was a powerful reminder that accessibility helps create communities where people can connect, contribute, and belong.

Because accessibility is not just about removing barriers.

It is about building communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate.

National Accessibility Week reminds us that accessibility is about more than removing barriers.

It is about creating opportunities.
Opportunities to stay active.
Opportunities to build confidence.
Opportunities to connect with others.
Opportunities to participate in community life.

Photos like these from our visit to INCLŪSIV Wellness remind us that accessibility is not just about ramps, parking spaces, or entrances.

It is about creating environments where people can pursue their goals, build relationships, and fully engage in the activities that matter to them.

Because accessibility is not just about getting through the door.

It is about having the opportunity to fully participate once you are inside.

Quick question:

Have you ever wondered why some accessible parking spaces are labeled "Van Accessible"?

The answer is simple.

That extra space allows wheelchair lifts and ramps to operate safely.

What may look like unused space is actually essential for many people to enter and exit their vehicles.

Accessibility is often built into details most people never notice.

This National Accessibility Week, take a closer look at the spaces around you.
You might discover that accessibility is about much more than a parking spot.

A blocked sidewalk is more than an inconvenience.

For some people, it can mean taking a longer route.

For others, it can mean entering the street.

Accessibility is not only about ramps and parking spaces. It is also about the everyday paths people use to get where they need to go.

This National Accessibility Week, take a look around your neighborhood.

What may seem like a small obstacle can become a barrier for someone else.

Because accessibility is more than ramps.

There is something special about people who choose to stay, grow, and continue showing up for others year after year.

At eitas, this work is built on relationships, trust, patience, and the belief that every person deserves to live a full life connected to their community. That kind of work does not happen by accident. It happens because of dedicated people who care deeply and continue to lead with compassion every single day.

Today we are celebrating team members reaching important work anniversaries. Your commitment has helped shape lives, strengthen our organization, and build a more connected community for the people around us.

Thank you for the long days, the problem solving, the teamwork, the advocacy, and the heart you bring into this work. eitas is stronger because of you.

Please help us celebrate these incredible staff members and thank them for the impact they continue to make every day.

Sometimes mental health support begins with a wagging tail.

For some individuals, trust is built through conversation. For others, it begins with connection, routine, and the quiet comfort of a dog sitting nearby.

Through a new Mental Health IDD Program funded by eitas, Paws and Pals is creating opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to engage in supportive environments alongside therapy dogs and animal-assisted supports.

A wagging tail. A gentle paw. A welcoming space. Sometimes small moments can help create the connection people need to feel comfortable, confident, and supported.

In our newest blog, we explore how Paws and Pals is creating new pathways to mental health support, connection, and belonging.
