As a parent, navigating an autism diagnosis can feel overwhelming. One of the first recommendations you are likely to receive is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is widely recognized as an evidence-based intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, since 2020, the Katy area has experienced a rapid increase in ABA providers, many of which have been established through private equity investment. With so many options available, it can be difficult for families to determine which provider is the best fit for their child.
At Social Connections, we believe that how ABA is delivered matters. We provide a progressive approach to Applied Behavior Analysis that emphasizes compassionate, individualized, and effective teaching practices. This approach differs from more conventional models by incorporating evidence-based strategies that promote meaningful learning, engagement, and long-term outcomes.
Implementing a truly progressive approach requires more than good intentions—it requires specialized training, ongoing mentorship, and organization-wide commitment. Without this foundation, even well-trained therapists may unintentionally revert to more conventional teaching methods. That is why every aspect of our program is guided by progressive principles.
The progressive approach is supported by a growing body of scientific literature, including more than 90 published research studies. One notable study by Milne and colleagues compared conventional discrete trial teaching with a progressive approach and demonstrated substantially improved learning outcomes when progressive teaching strategies were used.
To ensure fidelity to these practices, professionals who identify as Progressive Behavior Analysts complete specialized training and certification. At Social Connections, our Executive Director is a Certified Progressive Behavior Analyst–Autism Professional (CPBA-AP), demonstrating advanced training in the implementation of progressive ABA. According to the Progressive Behavior Analyst certification registry, there are currently only a limited number of certified professionals worldwide, with only a small number practicing in Texas.
