YOU PICK IT — I’LL TRY IT FOR 30 DAYS!

I’m putting 3 airway/sleep-related products to the test, and YOU get to decide which one I try first! 👇🏼

Here are the contenders:

🥇 SONU Band
SONU generates resonant frequencies-
calibrated to your unique facial and sinus anatomy via a smartphone facial scan and machine learning — that (a) reduce mucosal inflammation, (b) increase mucociliary clearance (the nose's natural self-cleaning system), and (c) mechanically open the nasal airway.
➡️ I want to see what I notice after using it consistently for a full month.

💧 REMplenish Water Bottle
A unique water bottle designed to help regulate the flow of water while drinking.
➡️ Since hydration, swallowing, oral function and airway all intersect, I’m curious to put this one to the test! I've tried mine here and there but never for a while month!

👃🏼 Intake Breathing Strips
Designed to mechanically expand the nasal passages to help improve nasal airflow.
➡️ I’ve used these here and there for a night or two, but I’ve never consistently used them for a full month so I’m curious to see what I notice with regular use.

And because I don’t want to just try something once and say, “Yep, seems cool…” 😂

I’m committing to using whichever product wins for ONE FULL MONTH.

I’ll share what I notice along the way—including sleep, breathing, comfort, and anything else worth reporting back on.

👇🏼 SO… WHICH ONE SHOULD I TRY FIRST?

Ever feel like swallowing shouldn’t be this hard?

Maybe it’s a pill that gets stuck.

Or food feels like it doesn’t want to go down.

Maybe you cough or choke when drinking water.

Maybe you feel like you’re constantly swallowing, clearing your throat, or worrying about “going down the wrong pipe.”

A myofunctional disorder can affect the coordination, strength, and resting posture of the muscles involved in swallowing.
And swallowing is something we do hundreds — even thousands — of times a day.
So when those muscles aren't working efficiently, you may notice things like:
👅 Difficulty swallowing pills
🥩 Food feeling stuck or difficult to move
💧 Coughing or choking when drinking
😮‍💨 Needing multiple swallows to clear food
🥛 Needing liquid to wash down food
💦 Difficulty managing saliva
🤧 Frequent throat clearing
🗣️ Changes in how swallowing feels
😬 Avoiding certain foods because they’re harder to swallow

It isn't always “just the way you swallow.”

These are pictures of my daughter sleeping. ❤️

And honestly? For years, I probably would have looked at these pictures and thought, “Yep… she’s just a weird sleeper.” 😂

But now, knowing what I know about myofunctional disorders and airway function, I see these pictures a little differently.

The unusual positions.
The movement.
The way the head and neck are positioned.
The open mouth.

Sometimes the body changes its position during sleep as a way of helping maintain a more comfortable or open airway.

That doesn't mean every child who sleeps in a funny position has an airway problem or myofunctional disorder. But when you see these signs along with mouth breathing, snoring, noisy breathing, restless sleep, sweating, dry mouth, or frequent waking, they're worth paying attention to.

Our bodies are constantly giving us clues. Sometimes we just have to know what we're looking for. 👀

And as a mom, I know how easy it is to dismiss something as “that's just how they sleep.”

But as a myofunctional therapist, I now know…

Sleep can tell us A LOT. 💤🫁👅

“But I already had braces…why are my teeth moving again?” 👀🦷

Orthodontics can beautifully straighten teeth, but if the underlying myofunctional disorder isn’t addressed, the forces acting on those teeth haven’t necessarily changed. This is why we have been so lucky to work closely with our local orthodontists to create lasting and healthy smiles!

Here’s what can happen:

The tongue isn’t resting where it should.
A low or forward tongue posture can place repeated pressure against the teeth.

The lips, cheeks & tongue aren’t working in balance.
Your teeth sit within a dynamic environment. Muscles are applying forces to them all day, every day.

Mouth breathing can contribute!
When the mouth is habitually open, the tongue may sit low and the lips may remain apart, changing the normal balance of forces around the teeth.

Swallowing patterns can reinforce those forces.
A tongue thrust or other atypical swallow pattern can repeatedly push against the teeth thousands of times a day.

So even after orthodontic treatment moves the teeth into alignment, the muscles and habits that contributed to the original problem may still be there.

Of course, orthodontic relapse can have other causes, and retainers are still an important part of maintaining orthodontic results. But looking deeper into the WHY is what Myo is all about. So next time you go see your orthodontist (in a Kearney or elsewhere) ask them about myofunctional therapy and orthodontic success!

Ever wonder what actually happens during a myofunctional therapy session? 👀

It’s not just “tongue exercises.” 😉

We’re looking at how the tongue, lips, jaw, cheeks and breathing work together, and training those muscles to function the way they’re supposed to.

Every patient is different, so every session looks a little different too!

This is just a quick peek at what happens behind the scenes at Kearney Myofunctional Therapy. 🦷👅

We have been excited to show you this one!

The posture 😲
The profile 😲
The tongue 😲
The lips 😲
The testimonial 🥰

Watching her grow and change over the last 6 months has been so rewarding! It may sound cheesy but our relationships with our patients is what makes it all worth it!

Dr. Jordan Cochran, DDS did an amazing job on this class IV tongue tie! 🙌🏼 It is so COOL when our patients feel the release right there in the chair! 😲

She completed 6 months of myofunctional therapy and CRUSHED all our goals that we set on day one! We did all of her therapy sessions virtual so she could continue being a busy working mom of three very busy boys!

Moms ... If you're reading this, know that it is "not too late", you don't have to "deal with it", you're not doomed to headaches, poor sleep and daily pain and headaches and this amazing gal is proof! ❤️
