We learn to "think outside the box". For me, that's meant employing unorthodox strategies such as:
* ordering DNA testing to successfully prove a 75-year-old breast cancer survivor became disabled when she was 20 years old; and
* persuading an auto insurance company to honor a 25 year old claim in order to generate evidence that ultimately won the case
Although I've represented claimants with
all types of disabilities, from AIDS to carpal tunnel syndrome, it is mental illness that is closest to my heart. As an attorney, I have often found my mental health experience invaluable. In the past I worked as a Recipient Rights Advisor to safeguard the rights of people receiving mental health services. I also have "hands on" experience working directly with patients in psychiatric hospitals. When handling your psychiatric disability claim, I bring all my experience to bear on your case. Currently, I am conducting extensive outreach in Wayne County by establishing weekly and bi-weekly drop-in disability law clinics in Eastern Market, Downriver and Central Detroit for:
★ large integrated health facility (4/13 to pres)
★ large mental health clinic (6/19 to pres)
★ residential substance abuse facility (9/20 to pres)
I have also led regular legal clinics at and maintain referral relationships with:
★ Methadone treatment center in Palmer Park (10/12 to 2/18)
★ faith-based soup kitchen in Brightmoor (1/16 to 7/18)
★ substance abuse recovery management program (7/16 to 2/17)
★ East Dearborn mental health clinic (2/17 to 5/19)
★ facility for homeless men with substance abuse issues in Midtown (8/17 to 3/20)
Served on Advisory Board for psychosocial rehabilitation clubhouse, providing ongoing guidance vis-à-vis its strategic planning and day-to-day governance. Drafted by-laws ultimately adopted by Advisory Board. Served as Board Secretary for two-year term. (October 2010 to July 2014)
