Working with kids means creativity comes in many forms. Can you match the fidget to the correct organ in this pelvic bowl? During a body scan the pelvis was hard to find and describe. So we created one that sat on the belly so the blank space could be filled and identify. Meeting a client where they are is one of my favorite things of being OT! And the random creative moments that maintained engagement while providing appropriate intervention.

It looks like a lot of the United States is playing the game who can have the most seasons in 72 hours. Georgia today was in the mid 70s and by Tuesday morning we have a potential for snow.

If you are currently being affected by the pressure or weather change, read through for some tips from an occupational therapist living with chronic conditions that can already feel the pressure changes 😵‍💫.

Survival state and chronic condition flairs look very similar.
This may not be the week to try new things or push too hard in building capacity.

Check in tomorrow for more suggestions.

A sunflower moment brought to you by ❤️❤️❤️ my husband! This man hears me talk about regulation all the time! But he also incorporates the language and some tools into daily life. He took a quick break to catch his breath and help regulate his wife’s nervous system, by let me know he is at training and not in an active fire. Let’s call it long distance co-regulation.

It’s freezing here in Georgia. And by that I mean, it’s in the 30s!

The sun is a false advertisement of warmth, but it still feels good to stop and enjoy for a moment.

Having the opportunity to go home between sessions and take a slow walk. (Bonus to let Murphy burn off some energy!)

☀️Are all great practice to be in calm a little today☀️

And while, we’re both out and enjoying the walk. Murphy is regulating and meeting his sensory need differently than me!
Forcing him to regulate the same way I do, would not go well!!

For 1 he’s got some flex mind challenges…

But also we have different needs!

One of the projects this week is asking the kids in session “

What feels good for your body?”
or
“What’s something that helps your body feel good?”

They are so insightful and have come up some great ideas.

Take some time this week and ask your kids, similar questions and find some time to practice it with them!

The night before Halloween and the house is electric. Creatures are stirring, oh my goodness, the mouse is on the run. If your mini-me's are beyond excited, plan some pre-trick-or-treat fun to burn off energy. Plan a dance party, try a kids' HIIT video, or even see who can do the most push-ups. Wishing you a fun and safe All Hallows' Eve.
