Late summer heat and humidity keep tack areas damp longer, and that matters for the horses your clients bring in.

When a treatment plan calls for a topical or an alternate application method because of skin sensitivity, that is exactly the kind of adjustment a compounding pharmacy exists to support.

We work from your prescription, not around it.

Late summer is prime time for skin issues in dogs and cats. Hot spots, bacterial infections, and allergic dermatitis tend to peak when humidity and heat are highest.

If your pet has been scratching, licking, or developing skin irritation, a vet visit is the right first step.

Not every patient can take a tablet, especially during recovery.

Meet River. His veterinarian-prescribed medication was compounded into a chicken-flavored liquid instead of a tablet, making it easier to give consistently at home. He's taking his medications and is on the road to recovery.

The right form can make a real difference in care.

Happy healing, River!

Summer heat does not slow down competition schedules, but it does change what horses need. Dehydration, electrolyte loss, and heat stress can affect performance, recovery, and long-term soundness.

If your horse is in heavy training or traveling frequently this summer, work with your veterinarian on a recovery and hydration plan specific to their workload. We are here to support custom compounded options when standard products are not the right fit.

A good day looks like this. No stiffness. No fuss over a dose. Just a horse doing horse things, because the treatment plan actually fits. That's what custom compounding is for: matching the form, flavor, and dose to the patient in front of you, not the other way around.

Vesicular stomatitis is active again this season. As of July, USDA APHIS has confirmed new cases across several counties in New Mexico and Colorado, with additional premises under investigation.

VSV moves through insect vectors and can affect horses, donkeys, mules, cattle, and swine. For show and competition horses, a confirmed case can mean movement restrictions and quarantine at the premises level, not just a treatment question.

If you're managing horses traveling this season, checking current case maps before a trip is worth the two minutes it takes.

Vesicular stomatitis is a viral disease of horses, donkeys, mules, cattle, swine and New World camelids that occurs in the Western Hemisphere. The disease is named for the characteristic vesicular lesions it causes in the form of blisters, crusts and ulceration of the lips, muzzle, nose, tongue, ear...

This year's West Nile virus season arrived early and hit hard. As of late June, the CDC had confirmed cases across 23 states, well ahead of the typical pace for this point in the season. In horses, West Nile virus carries a case fatality rate of roughly one in three among those showing clinical signs. Standard protocol is initial vaccination followed by a booster four to six weeks later, annual revaccination after that, and twice-yearly boosters in high-risk or year-round mosquito regions. If your patients are due, this is the season to close the gap.

We need your help! We need equine industry stakeholders to submit comments sharing why the NAHMS Equine study is critical to the horse industry.

On the course, close enough isn't good enough.

Boothwyn compounds medications for horses, modifying doses, forms, and flavors as directed by veterinarians, built to keep pace with performance horses at every stage of competition.

Precision isn't optional. It's the standard every prescription is compounded to.

Meet Wildfire, Boothwyn's Alan Medina's horse, and this summer's official hose enthusiast.

Staying cool and hydrated looks a little different for every horse, but the goal is the same. If your horse is in heavy work this summer, talk to your vet about making sure their recovery and hydration plan is keeping up with the heat.

We'll handle the compounding. They can handle the hose.

USDA's National Animal Health Monitoring System is launching a national equine industry study this month. Phase I started August 1 and covers randomly selected equine operations across all 50 states, looking at care, health management, disease occurrence, and use of veterinary services.

Participation is voluntary: paper questionnaire, online survey, or an interview with a NASS enumerator. The data collected goes toward prioritizing equine health research and welfare initiatives industry-wide.
