After a lot of reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision that Friday, June 20th will not only be my final farmers market of the season, but also the final chapter of Western Reserve Heritage Seed Co.
What began as a passion project centered on growing, saving, and sharing heirloom seeds evolved over time into something quite different. As demand shifted, the business became increasingly focused on growing and selling plants. While that journey brought many wonderful experiences, relationships, and lessons, it also created a growing disconnect between the company’s original mission and what it had become.
The good news is that heirloom seed preservation is alive and well. Many dedicated organizations, growers, and seed companies are doing incredible work to steward these varieties into the future, and I am grateful to have played a small part in that effort.
Over the years, I’ve learned an incredible amount, not only about plants, seeds, and business, but also about my own strengths, limitations, and where I can make the greatest impact. For that, I am deeply thankful.
To everyone who offered a helping hand or two, purchased seeds or plants, stopped by the market, shared encouragement, offered advice, or simply followed along on this journey: Thank you! Your support has meant more than you know.
When you plant a tree seed, the seedling never looks like the tree it eventually becomes. What begins as something small and simple grows, adapts, and often takes forms you never anticipated. Western Reserve Heritage Seed Co. has been much the same.
This isn’t goodbye, it’s germination. The seed that became Western Reserve Heritage Seed Co. has done its work, and I’m excited to see what grows next.
Stay tuned over the coming months as Western Reserve Heritage Seed Co. evolves into its next chapter. I’m looking forward to sharing what’s ahead when the time is right.
We hope to see you one last time at on June 20th.
With love and gratitude, thank you for being part of the journey.
