We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Weinstein is a physician who specializes in general and interventional cardiology as the newest member of our Care Team at AIMS!
Dr. Weinstein is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has kept his recertifications up to date in all three fields.
Dr. Weinstein is originally from the Philadelphia area where he attended Friends Select School, which is a prestigious Quaker prep school founded in 1836. He left Philadelphia after 11th grade to attend The University of Chicago on early admission to college. He graduated in 4 years with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with General Honors. After doing some graduate work at The University of Houston, he went to medical school at Hahnemann University (now part of Drexel University) in Philadelphia. Dr. Weinstein did his residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and did his cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Weinstein married a Chicago native while a fellow at the University of Chicago. He subsequently practiced cardiology in the north suburbs of Chicago for the next 12 years. He and his family relocated to the Phoenix metro area in early 2004 and has maintained his Arizona residency ever since that time. While working in Arizona at various times, Dr. Weinstein found his passion in starting up interventional cardiology programs in more rural areas where no cardiac or peripheral intervention had previously been performed.
The first time that Dr. Weinstein started an interventional program was in Palatka, Florida. Patients in that county had previously been transported to Jacksonville, Florida or Gainesville, Florida for acute myocardial infarction or for any coronary intervention. He started the program at Putnam Community Medical Center so that patients could be treated with coronary balloons and stents for acute heart attacks locally. With the establishment of the return of blood flow to the heart much quicker compared to the setting where patients had to be transferred to other parts of Florida for those services,
Dr. Weinstein was able to improve patent symptoms and minimize damage to the heart. It likely improved survival as well. It was widely needed in the community. The program was a huge success and is still active today.
Ultimately after leaving Florida, Dr. Weinstein was asked to establish the interventional cardiology program in Dyersburg, Tennessee. This was also a community where coronary intervention could not be previously performed locally and where patients had to be transferred to either Jackson, TN, or Memphis, TN for those services. The program was well received by the patients in Tennessee. In fact, Dr. Weinstein won a systemwide award for West Tennessee Healthcare as the "Physician recognized by Our Patients for Improving Care and Identified as Exemplary, Notable, and Trustworthy."
In essence, Dr. Weinstein is looking forward to coming to a smaller community in Arizona to share his knowledge, strengths, and abilities with the local community of Kingman.
Dr. Weinstein has many interests outside of medicine. He has been married for 36 years and has two children, Nicole and Scott. Nicole is out of the house and works in healthcare in Irvine, California. Scott is handicapped and still lives at home with his parents. Dr. Weinstein speaks both French and Spanish pretty well. He likes to hike, snow ski, scuba dive, play racquetball and pickleball. Other interests aside from active sports include reading, cooking, travel, and spiritual interests.
