💭 The first question Alan Gordon asked me about fatigue wasn’t, “How do you get rid of it?” 👇

It was, “Where do you feel it in your body?”

That simple question opened up a much bigger conversation about what happens when we instinctively try to escape a sensation, and what somatic tracking invites us to practice instead.

Comment ALAN and I’ll share the full episode with you.

💭 Somatic tracking can sound abstract, so Alan Gordon walked me through it live. 👇

Notice the sensation. Breathe. Get curious. Ask, “What’s it gonna do next?”

The point isn’t to make the sensation disappear on command. It’s to practice meeting it with safety instead of immediately fighting or running from it.

Swipe through for the simple framework.

I’ve been waiting for this conversation for a very long time.

Alan Gordon is the author of 'The Way Out', the book I’ve quoted more than any other on this channel. And in this moment, he shares what he believes is one of the most effective ways to communicate safety to the brain.

Instead of fighting a sensation or desperately trying to change it, can you become curious about it?

What will it do next?

Alan invites us to breathe, sit back, and watch with a little more lightness. To let every sensation become another instrument in the orchestra, while the brain learns that it is safe.

Comment ALAN (in all caps) and I’ll share the full episode with you.

Some of the biggest recovery wins can sound almost ordinary to everyone else.

Feeling the good kind of tired after a full day. Reading a manual and actually taking it in. Getting back on a bike. Saying yes to plans without that immediate wave of fear.

But when those parts of life have felt out of reach for a long time, they are anything but ordinary.

These are a few of the moments being celebrated inside Brain Retraining 101 lately, and I hope they remind you that progress can show up in so many different ways. đź’ś

My recent guest recovered from CFS and 50+ chronic symptoms without a coach or program.

Yes.

Melanie Murphy found her own way forward through free videos, books, and the recovery stories of people who had gone before her.

What she did with everything she learned was incredibly personal, creative, and unlike any recovery approach I’ve heard before.

Now she’s sharing the story she once needed to find.

💭 What if fatigue does not always mean your body is actually out of energy? 👇

This was one of the most interesting parts of my conversation with Mats Lekander, professor of psychoneuroimmunology at Stockholm University and of health psychology at Karolinska Institutet.

We tend to think of fatigue like an empty gas tank. If we feel exhausted, we assume there must be no energy left.

But Prof. Mats explains that the brain is doing something much more complicated. It is constantly estimating how much energy we have and how much we might need in the future.

And sometimes, that estimate can create very real fatigue, sleepiness, and the urge to stop moving or socializing, even when there is no actual deficit of energy.

That does not make the fatigue any less real.

It gives us a completely different way to understand where that feeling may be coming from.

This might be the most important thing I’ve learned from 250+ recovery interviews: almost nobody fails because the tools are bad.

They struggle because nobody gave them the order. Somatic tracking, journaling, expanding activity: they all work, in the right phase.

If you want the whole sequence laid out for you: Brain Retraining 101 is 50% off for your first month, LESS THAN 24 HOURS LEFT, code SUMMER50 at check-out

If you’ve been trying to use the same recovery tool over and over, and it no longer feels like the right fit, that doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing something wrong.

You may be working in a different phase.

There’s a big difference between:

• understanding safety in your body
• learning to respond differently when symptoms appear
• expanding activity
• allowing emotions to move
• building the life after recovery

Your phase helps you understand which tools may support you right now.

Meeting yourself where you are isn’t slower. It’s the fast path.

Brain Retraining 101 walks through all five phases, with a check-in at each one so you always know where you are.

First month 50% off August 17-21 with code SUMMER50.

Renews at $197/month. Cancel anytime.

Hey friends đź’› I wanted to share something really special today.

Dane spent 2.5 years with Long Covid before he bravely decided to try something new and joined my program. A few months later, he considers himself fully recovered.

On the day he said goodbye to us, this is what he shared (and gave us permission to share with you). He wasn’t talking about tools or protocols. He was talking about his dog.

“One of the key missing pieces in my recovery was prioritising joy every day. Over the last few days I've been experiencing a lot of joy teaching my dog to ride along with me on an electric bike.”

He’s now working, back to running and going to the gym, and there’s even a half marathon on his list.

He also wanted to give a special shoutout:

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the group calls. Every time someone shared it made me feel less alone and isolated. Special thanks to coach Devon Carter, and to Adele Neale and all the others who support and help make it happen.”

That part matters more to me than anything I could say. It’s never just one person doing this alone.

Thank you, Dane. And thank you for the photos. đź’›

(If BR101 has been on your mind, our Summer Sale runs through Friday: your first month is $97 instead of $197. And if now isn’t the right time, the free videos on the channel aren’t going anywhere.)
