because bunions 😩
If you know me, I don’t really like wearing shoes. I often massage barefoot or with slippers. At home, if I need shoes, I’ll admit crocs are my best friend.
But then a special occasion comes up and I wear heels. Even platforms, if worn for a long period of time, absolutely destroy my feet.
So what does a flat footed girl do? KT tape that puppy dog! Instant relief! 😮💨 ✨
What causes bunions? Soooo many things; history of dancing like ballet, playing sports like football, previous injuries, having a career that requires constant standing, or even hypermobility! Me? Genetics, hypermobility, and dancing/cheerleading played a huge part in this. 🫣😱
Luckily, there are remedies like massage! For some people, the pain is so excruciating surgery may be the only option. That was me back in 2012. (Can you imagine having to take your drivers test for licensure in a cast?! 🚙 )
Then, there’s less invasive treatments like chiropractor care, PTs, and massage! For a long time I’ve been able to stave off pain in my right foot. Good shoes (or no shoes!), strengthening my body, correcting poor posture, and massage with KT tape.
Correcting and paying attention to bunions, or the feet in general, is so important. Not just due to the pain they may cause (or the inability to wear cute shoes 🥺😅) but because it’s often a huge contributor to other issues in the body that could be causing pain.
As your body attempts to correct itself, you are causing issues in your ankles, knees, and hips. You can imagine how that’s going to affect even more joints and muscles as time goes on. Many times, I’ve been able to assist clients in their muscle recovery and rehabilitation by addressing the feet! Not just the muscle or group experiencing the pain but looking at the body as a whole. Because we all know by now you may be feeling the pain in one spot but the root of the problem is somewhere else.
