One guest shared these words after spending a week with us.

"I arrived exhausted and am leaving refreshed and rejuvenated. This retreat is truly a blessing from the Lord. Paul and Ann have devoted their lives to caring for people and their health, and it shows in every detail."

Those words mean more to us than any advertisement ever could.

Every week, our hope is that each guest leaves encouraged, better equipped, and confident about the next steps in their health journey.

If you've been considering attending, we'd love to answer your questions.

Most people don't need another diet.

They need a better environment to make healthy decisions.

Sometimes changing your surroundings is the first step toward changing your habits.

Why Whole Foods Matter

Food is much more than calories.

Every bite contains information.

Whole fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, and other plant foods providevitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and countless naturally occurring compounds that work together in remarkable ways.

Highly processed foods often contain plenty of calories while offering far less of what the body actually needs.

That doesn't mean perfection.

It means making more choices that nourish rather than simply fill.

Throughout the retreat, guests enjoy colorful meals that demonstrate healthy eating can also be satisfying and enjoyable.

Many leave surprised by just how delicious whole-food plant-based meals can be.

Healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated.

There is something about watching the morning sun reflect across the river that reminds us life doesn't always need to move so fast.

Many of our guests tell us this becomes one of their favorite parts of the week.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to slow down.

Looking back over your life...

What is one healthy habit you're grateful someone taught you?

It could be something your parents did.

Something you learned later in life.

Or even something you're still trying to develop today.

If you've ever wondered what a day here actually looks like: it starts with morning devotion — tied to the day's teaching, never separate from it — and a breakfast someone else prepared.

From there, the day belongs to the therapies, the scans, and the one-on-one consultations. There is a schedule, but it holds appointments, not obligations — the therapies are scheduled for you, never required of you. And they're the restful kind. Most guests find themselves folding a nap or two into the day, and nobody here will interrupt one.

In between, the tea table is set and available all day. There's a BarleyMax table where you can mix the different juice powders and find the one you like. Fresh vegetable juice comes around twice — once in the morning, once in the afternoon. Supper comes early, and the evenings stay unhurried enough that sleep starts arriving the way it's supposed to.

Five of those days strung together do something that one good day at home can't. That's really the whole design.

Our remaining weeks this year are all in October — the 11th through the 16th, the 18th through the 23rd, and the 25th through the 30th. If a reset like this has been sitting somewhere on your mind, you may explore whether one of those weeks fits.

"Come to the Retreat for a time to relax your soul and be nourished by delicious meals. The staff and Paul and Ann are very caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate toward each person's needs. This is a retreat you will never forget."

That's Catherine, after her week with us. Three sentences — and it's the middle one we keep coming back to.

Compassionate toward each person's needs. Each person's. In a single week, she noticed that no two guests are walked through it quite the same way — because no two arrive carrying the same thing. Some come with a diagnosis in hand. Some come simply worn out. Some just come. The week bends toward the person, not the other way around.

That's the part we work hardest at, and it's the part hardest to see from the outside. So it meant a great deal that she saw it.

Catherine's week was her own, and what she found here is her story rather than a promise of anyone else's. But if you've been wondering whether a place like this would have room for your particular situation — that's rather the point of it.

Something we've noticed over the years: people can often quote the number from their last bone scan, sometimes to the decimal. It's the number they were handed, so it's the number they carry.

Here's what rarely gets explained alongside it. Bone is two things at once. There's the mineral — calcium, mostly — which gives it hardness. And underneath there's a protein framework, mostly collagen, which gives it flexibility: the ability to bend a little under load instead of snapping. A baby's bones carry very little mineral, and babies almost never fracture. The framework is that good.

The scan measures the mineral. By its own technical limits it says nothing about the framework that mineral sits on — which is why researchers keep finding that two people with the same score can carry very different actual risk, and why a good number isn't quite the whole story either.

We find that changes the question people ask. Not "how do I raise the number," but "what does this body need to keep building what it was designed to build?" The framework is living tissue. It's built from what comes in — greens, magnesium-rich foods, real food generally — and it's maintained in response to what's asked of it. Weight-bearing movement is one of the best-established signals there is, at any age.

That's the kind of unhurried teaching that fills the mornings during a week here. Not more numbers — a clearer picture of what the body is doing underneath them. None of it replaces the conversation with your doctor. In our experience, it makes that conversation considerably better.

One of the quieter things we notice during a guest's week with us is how differently people sleep after a few nights. Supper earlier than they're used to. A long, unhurried evening. A room that actually gets cool and dark. By about the third night, people start mentioning it on their own.

There's more going on in those hours than rest. Melatonin — the hormone the body releases as evening comes on — turns out to be far more than a signal that it's dark outside. It gathers in the parts of the cell where the day's wear and tear collects, and it helps drive the repair work the body does overnight. That's not a metaphor. It's a real, nightly process, and melatonin is a good part of what powers it.

Two things are worth knowing. The body makes less of it as the years go on — the decline starts somewhere in the thirties and keeps going. And ordinary evening habits thin out what's left: a warm bedroom, a late meal, a room that never really goes fully dark. Most of us have been treating those as sleep-quality questions. They're repair questions too.

None of which requires anything complicated. Morning light in your eyes within the first hour of waking. A bedroom that's genuinely cool and genuinely dark once you turn in for the night. Supper early enough that your body isn't still working on it. A handful of walnuts in the evening, which happen to carry a little melatonin themselves. Small things, all of them — and the body seems to know what to do with them.

That's most of what we do here. Not adding much. Just clearing the way for work the body was already designed to do.

We wrote the whole thing up — what melatonin is actually doing while you sleep, why it thins out with the years, and the few unglamorous things that protect it.

Over the years, I've noticed something interesting.

Many guests apologize when they arrive.

"I'm sorry I'm so tired."
"I'm sorry I can't keep up."
"I'm sorry I've let myself get this way."

I always tell them the same thing.

You don't need to apologize.
You've been carrying a lot.

This week isn't about judging where you've been.

It's about discovering where you can go from here.

By Thursday, many of those same guests are smiling more, sleeping better, asking questions, and beginning to believe that change really is possible.

Hope is often one of the healthiest things someone can regain.

If you're ready to take the next step in your own health journey, we'd be honored to walk alongside you.
