Just a reminder that tomorrow is our last day...We thank you all for your friendship and support, and we hope to see you all at Graceland and Karma!

An important note to all of our awesome customers:

We wanted you all to be the first to know that after a lot of thought and careful consideration, Miranda has decided that Pop's Tattoo Emporium will be closing its doors on September 13th. While the last few years have been a blast, and we've met so many incredible people, it's time for us to focus on our true loves--tattooing, art, and family--rather than the day-to-day operation of a busy business.

None of us will be giving up tattooing, and we hope that you'll follow us as we all start new chapters in our careers:

*After the end of her maternity leave in January (you didn't know? Miranda's expecting her second baby in October!), Miranda will be working part-time at Graceland Tattoo Studio in Wappingers Falls.

*Cookie will also be working at Graceland in Wappingers Falls, full-time, starting on October 1st.

*Beginning in October, Dana will be at Karma Tattoo in Uptown Kingston.

If you'd like to fit in a tat at Pop's before September 13th, please stop in to schedule an appointment. If you don't get in before then--and for all your future tattoos--we hope you'll come see us at our new gigs!

Once again, we’d like to thank everyone for your support and friendship through the years. We can’t wait to see (and tattoo) you again soon!

Just a reminder that Saturday is our last day. Can't make it in before then? We're not going far! See below:

“Since the start of military action in Afghanistan and Iraq after the 9/11 attacks, more and more servicemembers are getting memorial tattoos. For the many Soldiers today who have lost their friends and comrades, these pieces serve as a silent tribute when words are not enough.” http://www.army.mil/article/27582/

Tattoos and the military have a long and colorful history. Modern pop culture credits the Navy with introducing the art of tattooing to the United States in the early 1900s, when Sailors returning from distant lands displayed their skin-art souvenirs.

“What’s with the skulls?” While some people associate skulls with death and decay, throughout time and various cultures and religions, the skull has had many meanings—from resurrection to rebellion. Today, skull tattoos (in various styles) are still among the most popular designs. Find out more here: http://www.skullspiration.com/meaning-skull-tattoos/

We'll be around for a few more days before we move on to Graceland Tattoos (Miranda and Cookie)/Karma Tattoos (Dana). If we miss you, we'll see you there!

According to some sources, old-school sailors got tattoos to signify different accomplishments, for example: A turtle meant he had crossed the equator, a full-rigged ship symbolized that he had navigated around Cape Horn, and a dragon represented that the sailor had served in China. (Sick ship tattoo by Cookie!)

Here’s an interesting news story…
Food for thought: what someone here may consider a piece of art that represents something important to them might be considered insensitive in other countries, so it’s important to understand customs and culture when traveling abroad: http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/08/05/canadian-professor-made-to-leave-burma-due-to-anger-over-buddha-tattoos-on-leg/

A vacationing Canadian professor says he was forced to leave Burma after his leg tattoos caused a stir.
