đŸ’© The 5 F’s of Constipation:

1ïžâƒŁ FIBER đŸŒ±
Fiber is essential for supporting a healthy gut microbiome and promoting regular, well-formed stools. Supplements like psyllium husk or partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) can be helpful if it’s difficult to achieve >30g per day from diet alone. If increasing fiber consistently makes you feel worse, underlying conditions like SIBO or Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO) may be worth investigating.

2ïžâƒŁ FLUIDS 💧
Hydration plays an important role in keeping stools soft and easier to pass. Fiber works best when you’re adequately hydrated!

3ïžâƒŁ FLORA 🩠
Did you know that up to half of your stool can be made of bacteria? Your gut microbiome also produces metabolites that influence intestinal motility. Certain probiotics may provide additional support.

4ïžâƒŁ FEET đŸšœ
Your bathroom posture matters! Elevating your feet on a small stool while sitting on the toilet can help improve the angle of your re**um and make bowel movements easier.

5ïžâƒŁ FITNESS đŸš¶
Movement helps stimulate intestinal motility! Even simple activities like a morning walk, gentle stretching, or a 10–15 minute walk after meals can help encourage regular bowel movements.

5 things I would prioritize after SIBO treatment to help reduce the risk of recurrence 👇

1. Space meals 4–5 hours apart + aim for a 10–12 hour overnight fast: This gives the migrating motor complex (MMC)—your gut’s cleansing waves—time to do its job between meals.

2. Support the vagus nerve daily: Breathwork, humming, gargling, singing, cold water exposure, etc. Simple practices that support the gut-brain axis.

3. Build nervous system regulation into my week: Yoga, acupuncture, reading, time outside, connecting with people I love— whatever helps my body shift out of a fight-or-flight state and strengthens parasympathetic tone.

4. Actually slow down when I eat: Sit down. Chew thoroughly. Check in with my body. Avoid rushing, working, scrolling, or multitasking through meals.

5. Feed my microbiome: Gradually incorporate foods rich in FOS, inulin, resistant starch, and pectin—as tolerated—to support microbial diversity.

Still constipated despite trying everything? 👀

If you’ve increased your fiber, you’re drinking plenty of water, you’ve cleaned up your diet, you’ve tried magnesium, supplements, or even constipation medications
but you’re still struggling with constipation, it may be time to look deeper.

One often-overlooked cause is intestinal methanogen overgrowth (IMO).

Methane gas can slow the movement of your intestines, leading to constipation, bloating, abdominal discomfort, and the feeling that nothing is working—because the underlying cause hasn’t been identified.

Instead of continuing to guess, consider getting tested.

Still stuck on the low FODMAP diet after SIBO treatment? đŸ€”

If you’ve completed treatment but every time you try to reintroduce high FODMAP foods you’re hit with bloating, gas, abdominal pain, or digestive symptoms, don’t ignore it.

One possibility is that your SIBO wasn’t fully eradicated.

So, what’s next?

✅ Retest. The only way to know whether treatment worked is to test again.

✅ Address the underlying cause. Treating bacterial overgrowth is only part of the equation. If the factors that allowed SIBO to develop aren’t identified and managed, symptoms are more likely to return.

✅ Change the terrain. Supporting healthy gut motility and addressing the root causes can help create an environment where SIBO is less likely to persist or recur.

The goal isn’t to stay on a restrictive diet forever. It’s to get back to eating a wider variety of foods with confidence.

One of our biggest pet peeves
 đŸ˜€

When someone is told, “You have IBS,” and that’s where the conversation ends—leaving them to spend hours researching online, trying supplement after supplement, and hoping something finally works.

IBS is a syndrome, which means it describes a collection of symptoms rather than identifying a single underlying cause.

For some people, symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, or mixed bowel habits may be caused by SIBO which can be evaluated with a home breath test.

You deserve more than hearing, “It’s just IBS.”

Hydrogen SIBO Treatment: Part 2/2

Let us know your questions or experience with hydrogen dominant SIBO below👇

Remember, SIBO treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Co-occurring gases, such as methane or hydrogen sulfide, can change the clinical picture and influence the treatment approach. What works for one person can’t always be replicated in another.

đŸŠ· Bad breath isn’t always a dental problem—it can also be a sign of something deeper happening in your gut.

If you have persistent bad breath and symptoms like bloating, gas, constipation, or diarrhea, SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) may be part of the picture.

The connection goes both ways:
✹ Poor oral health can act as a reservoir for bacteria, potentially contributing to recurrent SIBO after treatment.
✹If bad breath that keeps coming back despite good oral hygiene, it may be worth looking beyond your mouth.

👉 Swipe through to learn more and read our latest blog post in the GutRemedy app for a deeper dive into the connection between oral health and SIBO.
