Sometimes birth changes trajectory from what you envisioned, that doesn’t mean you failed

Birth will ask a lot of you and you’ll have to make decisions you might not have thought you would

That’s why it’s important to know how birth works and your options before you’re even in labor so you can spend more time experiencing and less time trying to figure out what is happening and “what is a foley bulb and where does it go??”

I help families make 3 birth plans:
• Spontaneous (unmedicated or medicated)
• Induction
• C-section

This is so you know your options and preferences even if plans change

An example of this, sometimes a mom wants to have a completely unmedicated birth and as she nears her due date, she may develop Pre-Eclampsia and need an induction

I’ve seen firsthand the peace that comes when this happens and instead of panicking and trying to figure out what it all means in real time, they’ve already learned what the process looks like and have their birth plan ready

I share all my tips and tricks for building a birth plan that is sourced from evidence, not just “well this is how we’ve always done it” because evidence can take an average of 17 years to be implemented into routine practice

Families deserve better. You deserve care that is respectful and follows ACOG’s guidelines for informed consent 🤍

Advocacy isn’t disrespectful, it’s not being difficult- it’s respecting autonomy

We’ll soon talk more about how hospital policy ≠ law (this isn’t meant as anti-hospital, care that isn’t respectful can happen anywhere. This example is just one that I recently witnessed firsthand)
