Happy Father’s Day

Today we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, father figures, and caregivers who show up every day with quiet strength, steady support, and unconditional love.

As nurses, we often see fathers in some of life’s most challenging moments—sitting beside hospital beds, learning new caregiving skills, driving to appointments, advocating for loved ones, and simply being present when it matters most. We also see the fathers who work tirelessly in healthcare to care for others while sacrificing much of their personal time and energy.
A big shout out to my own father who positively impacted healthcare for many decades. I learned so much from him.
Those acts may not always make headlines, but they make a difference.

To the dads who fix, teach, protect, encourage, and love so well—thank you.

And to the fathers caring for aging parents, supporting spouses through illness, or navigating health challenges of their own, we see you too.

Wishing all fathers a day filled with love, appreciation, and time with those who matter most.

Skill and experience matter tremendously—but so does communication.

When choosing a provider, consider:

✅ How much experience do they have with your condition or procedure?
✅ Do they explain things in a way you understand?
✅ Do they welcome questions?
✅ How accessible is their office after the appointment or surgery?
✅ Do you feel heard and respected?
✅ Would you trust them with a loved one?

The best outcomes often come from a combination of clinical expertise and compassionate communication.

Your healthcare team should make you feel confident, informed, and supported—not rushed or confused.

At ClearPath, we help patients and families ask the right questions, understand their options, and navigate healthcare with confidence.

A few ways we have helped in the past week…

—Transporting a client to a doctor’s appointment to be sure they had all of their visit notes recorded and their questions answered. I went a step further to be sure the client understood all medication changes and to be they understood what was said to them in the room.

—Meeting a client at the hospital prior to discharge to learn how to change their dressing and to go over discharge instructions with the care team.

—These examples all involve interaction with providers of all levels.

I used to think bedside manner was a nice bonus.

When it came to choosing a doctor, surgeon, or health care provider, I thought skill was a the greater piece that mattered. Give me the most experienced, most knowledgeable person in the room, and I was happy.

But after years of being both a nurse and a patient—and watching people I love navigate difficult health journeys—my perspective has changed.

Today, I would gladly wait longer, drive farther, or rearrange my schedule to find someone who has both exceptional skill and exceptional bedside manner.

Because healthcare is about so much more than treating a diagnosis.

It’s about feeling heard when you’re scared.
It’s about having someone take the time to explain things.
It’s about kindness during vulnerable moments.
It’s about knowing the person caring for you sees you as a human being, not just another room number or chart.

The providers I’ve never forgotten weren’t always the ones with the most impressive credentials on the wall. They were the ones who combined their expertise with compassion.

The truth is, when skill and bedside manner come together, patients don’t just receive care—they feel cared for.

That philosophy is at the heart of what we strive for at ClearPath. We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between clinical excellence and genuine compassion. Have you ever picked up a prescription and thought:

“This doesn’t look like what I usually take.”

Sometimes pharmacies receive medications from different manufacturers. The pill may be a different color, shape, or size, even though it’s the exact same medication and dose.

Before stopping a medication or assuming there was a mistake:

✔ Check the medication name
✔ Verify the strength (mg)
✔ Read the prescription label
✔ Ask your pharmacist if you’re unsure

If you use a pill organizer or help care for a loved one, this is especially important. A change in appearance can be confusing and may lead to missed doses or medication errors.

When in doubt, ask the pharmacist. That’s what they’re there for.
