Therapy is hard.
Hard for the child. Hard for the parents watching.
And hard for the therapists.
When we first met this sweet boy, movement felt scary. Through an OT intensive focused on sensory processing and Vaughn Bodywork, he learned to better feel his body, feel movements, and trust us.
Then came more hard work.
With a room full of family and therapists cheering him on, he went from being scared to sit on a ball, while wrapped in deep pressure and calming vibration… to laughing while floating through the air.
And that confidence? Immediately translated into 15 seconds of independent sitting.
Therapy is hard.
But it’s worth it. 💙
P.S. We don’t let kids cry just to cry, but we do let them get frustrated while we support them through the hard things. They get breaks and mom snuggles, music and toys. Kids learn best when they aren’t crying… but being frustrated while doing hard things is okay. We always listen to the parents since they know their child’s communication and cues way better than we do.. they know when they’re mad… they’re needing a break… or they’re faking us out. 😉
