In a time when it’s easy to feel like even rest must earned, it’s time for the reminder that

You arrived here a whole and sentient being. And that, in and of itself, means you are worthy.

A fresh photo feels like a good reason for a fresh introduction. ❤️

I’m Barb—the human behind Well Rooted.

My work is centered around a pretty simple belief: your body doesn’t need to be pushed harder. It needs to be listened to.

After decades of working closely with women and their bodies, my work today brings together Osteo Thai Bodywork, Yin Yoga, breath, mindfulness and a whole lot of respect for the wisdom of the body.

You’ll find me teaching Rooted Monday—Osteo Thai Yin Yoga every Monday evening, working one-on-one with bodywork clients, and creating spaces where people can slow down, feel supported and reconnect with themselves.

No performing wellness.
No forcing your body into someone else’s idea of what it should do.

Just thoughtful, deeply human care—and probably more bolsters than you knew existed. 😉

I’m glad you’re here.

Curious about yoga but you’re not interested in performing a pose, keeping up, or wondering whether your body is doing it “right?”

if you’d like to give your body somewhere to land for an hour, join me this and every Monday evening at 7 PM Printshop Beer Co. for a restorative Osteo Thai Yin yoga class where four pillars support the practice: curiosity, support, agency, stillness.

You don’t have to earn the bolster.

I mean this quite literally.

Somewhere along the way, yoga props acquired a reputation as the things you reach for when you can’t quite do the pose.

Nope.

In my classes, the bolster isn’t the consolation prize. The block isn’t evidence that you aren’t flexible enough. And using three blankets, two blocks and a bolster doesn’t mean you’ve somehow chosen the “easy” version.

Props change the relationship between your body and gravity.

They give your body something to push into, lean against, drape over and—perhaps most importantly—stop holding itself up against.

And when your body feels sufficiently supported, something rather lovely can happen:

it may stop working quite so hard.

That’s a very different reason for using a bolster than “because I can’t reach.”

So take the damn bolster.

Take two.

Build yourself a small upholstered fortress if that’s what your body wants. 😂

The point was never to prove you could do without the support.

The practice might actually be learning to receive it.

Do you recognize yourself in this story?

I can take the vacation.

I just need to carry a 40-pound backpack the whole time. 😂

Lately I’ve realized I somehow confused being hardworking with believing everything worthwhile has to be hard.

Rest had to be earned.
Success required sacrifice.
Being good at something meant doing enough of it to become exhausted.

I come from hardworking people, and there’s so much about that legacy I’m proud to carry.

But I’m ready to put down the belief that effort and exhaustion are evidence of worthiness.

And I wonder how many of us carry that belief in our bodies, too.

Shoulders that never quite drop.
Clenched jaws.
Held breath.
A body that’s technically resting while something inside whispers, Not yet. There’s more to do.

Maybe we don’t always need to push harder or get better at coping.

Maybe sometimes the work is learning that it’s safe to soften.

To receive.

To let something be good without earning it first.

I’m experimenting with that now.

Less proving. More receiving.

And maybe enjoying the damn view without the ridiculously heavy backpack. 😉
