Oak Savanna Counseling I believe education is a powerful catalyst for change.

Megan John provides individual and couples counseling, and hosts workshops centered on wellness, mindfulness, mental health education, and diversity and inclusion. As a licensed therapist, mental health educator, and mindfulness facilitator I am passionately committed to destigmatizing mental health, cultivating compassion, and normalizing the challenges that come with being human. My approach blends insight, self-awareness, and practical skills to support meaningful growth, while creating a safe space to explore, fall apart, and rebuild at your own pace. Through evidence-based workplace trainings and workshops, I help organizations and businesses reduce stress, build resilience, and make change that promote inclusivity and lasting well-being. In addition, I offer mindfulness-based stress reduction workshops and couples’ workshops inspired by The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman.

"Each moment of our lives, each moment that is given to us to live, we have to live very deeply. If you are capable of living deeply one moment of your life, you can learn to live the same way all the other moments of your life."

Repost Thich Nhat Hanh

“We should not be afraid of suffering. We should be afraid of only one thing, and that is not knowing how to deal with our suffering. Handling our suffering is an art. If we know how to suffer, we suffer much less, and we’re no longer afraid of being overwhelmed by the suffering inside. The energy of mindfulness helps us recognize, acknowledge, and embrace the presence of the suffering, which can already bring some calm and relief.”
-Thich Nhat Hanh (The Art of Living)

Don’t forget while you’re crushing goals, waiting for the storm to pass, or the next great thing to come that where you are now matters in big ways. Every small step today is a building block for tomorrow.

Hello and happy new year! I’m Megan John, owner of Oak Savanna Counseling. I am excited to use this space for sharing new and upcoming offerings from my practice, along with wellness and mental health resources, and content that inspires reflection and encouragement. The simple act of connecting with community and sharing in our human experiences can be deeply healing – and I look forward to doing that here!

A little about me: I have been practicing as a Therapist and Rehabilitation Counselor for more than 15 years. After a very fulfilling and transformative career at the Hines VA Hospital, I opened this practice, Oak Savanna Counseling.

Did you know: Oak Savanna Counseling was named after the oak savanna in Brookfield, IL, one of the nearby communities where I offer services. Similarly, I am humbly reminded that, like nature, humans too can grow and thrive in surprising and challenging conditions.

Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments!
