Take a look at this transformation.

What was once an outdated, cold brick wall is now a warm, inviting feature that makes our residential living room feel like home.

This is more than aesthetics. It’s about dignity.

The individuals we support deserve to live in homes that are comforting, welcoming, and beautiful, places they can genuinely be proud of.

This renovation is also part of a larger effort to transform our residential homes into dementia-friendly environments that support aging in place, under the guidance of our Executive Director, Dr. Thomas Buckley.

Every detail matters when it comes to creating a place someone can truly call home.

**Residential services are administered and delivered by our partner agency, San Gabriel Valley Residential Facility (SGV RF).

As a service provider for adults with Down syndrome, we want to make sure that all healthcare professionals truly understand the unique health needs of people with Down syndrome —including conditions like Down Syndrome Regression Disorder (DSRD) and Alzheimer’s disease.

CARE Down Syndrome is a clinical education and resource hub for healthcare professionals, featuring content accredited for continuing medical education (CME) credits. It’s a great way for doctors to learn how to provide better, more informed care for adults with Down syndrome. There’s even a toolkit on the CARE Down Syndrome website to help parents, caregivers and providers share the course and other resources with doctors.

Together, we can help build a network of healthcare professionals who are prepared, compassionate, and understand the unique healthcare needs of people with Down syndrome.

We have been blessed at The Roland Center with many Direct Support Professionals who are talented, compassionate, and highly motivated to provide the best support possible to our individuals.

Thanks to Cal DDS and their DSP Internship Program, and to Alls Well for connecting us with such amazing candidates, we have been able to hire exceptional talent, like Wil.

Wil began with us as an intern through this program before being hired directly as a Direct Support Professional in our Adult Day Program.

Now, we couldn't imagine our days without him.

Thank you for everything you do, Wil. We are so glad you decided to take a chance on becoming a Direct Support Professional, and we're grateful CalDDS and Alls Well helped make that connection possible.

Last month, individuals from our adult day program were invited to Bessy’s Boutique for a private fitting and fashion show, all their own. They tried on clothing and jewelry, struck their best poses, and modeled with confidence in front of the camera.

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, chances like this, to be styled, to be seen, to express who they are through fashion, don’t come around often. That day changed that.

We’re so grateful to Bessy's Boutique for partnering with us and making this day so special. And a big thank you to Eduardo Moradel for beautifully capturing the whole experience in photo and video.

Take a look at some of our favorite moments below!

The Roland Center Fashion Show @ Bessy's Boutique

Video created by: Eduardo Moradel @ ClickBait Media

On a fun Friday in July, Bessy's Boutique hosted a number of individuals from our Adult Day Program at their store. Our individuals were invited to test and model a number of their stocked items, culminating in a wonderfully expressive and creative runway fashion show - all on-site in their boutique!

A big thank you to Bessy's Boutique for supporting our programming by creating an opportunity for those individuals with an interest in fashion and retail. Thank you for also seeing our individuals beyond their diagnoses - as complete human beings.

This is exactly why we do, what we do. We are so grateful for this new community partnership.

Everybody - go check out Bessy's Boutique!

Big thanks to our friends at Milestone HCQU West for featuring The Roland Center in their latest blog post! 🎉

We first connected with this wonderful organization earlier this year at the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association Conference, where we had the opportunity to share our documentary, The Last Stamp, with a room full of nurses and healthcare professionals who dedicate their careers to supporting individuals with IDD.

It means so much to connect with organizations who share our commitment to helping people with IDD get the health care and support they deserve, no matter where they receive services.

Thank you, Milestone HCQU West, for the feature and for being such wonderful partners in this work. We’re grateful for you! 💛

Go check out the blog and the work of this amazing organisation!

A big thank you for a great visit! 🙌

On Friday morning, we welcomed Thomas from the office of Congressman Rep. Gil Cisneros, our representative for California’s 31st District, to The Roland Center.

Thomas spent the morning touring our Adult Day Program, meeting with our senior leadership team, and hearing directly from some of our self-advocates about their experiences here.

He left impressed, and not just by our programs and activities. As his visit wrapped up, Thomas mentioned something that meant a great deal to us: the way our individuals greeted him. Full of warmth, smiles, and genuine excitement to share their world with him.

That kind of welcome doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the product of thoughtfully designed care plans and environments built to help each person thrive, not just be looked after.

TRC is a place to grow, learn, pursue goals, and engage with the world.

Thank you, Thomas, for taking the time to see it firsthand. We’re grateful for the visit and excited about the road ahead as we continue working together to advance care for people with IDD.
