🏈🌶️ First UL home football game of 2026! 🌶️🏈

Dr. Morgan and Dr. Ross experienced their first UL football game as Ragin’ Cajuns — and they got to celebrate with a CAJUN WIN! We had an a great staff working with Dr. Phillips leading the Primary Care Sports Medicine team as well as Dr. Morton and Dr. Sin joining her with the fellows and Nurse Julia. It started out like a typical Louisiana swamp with some rain but cleared up by halftime. First game down many more to go!

🚨 One month down in the 2026–2027 SM fellowship year! 🚨

And just like that… the fall sports season is officially getting rolling! 🏈⚽️

Our fellows have been busy getting some great ultrasound reps in, including a deep dive into the hand and wrist. Of course Lister’s tubercle is the lighthouse of the dorsal compartments per Dr. LaBorde! 😂🔦

Sideline coverage is ramping up, too! Our fellows have already been out covering several UL soccer games and the high school football jamboree, putting their skills to work in real-time sports medicine settings. 💪🏼

We also teamed up with our Family Medicine residents to complete 150+ University of Louisiana athlete physicals this week!

One month in, and we’re already seeing the pace pick up. The fall season is here and we’re ready for it! 🤟💪🔥

Friday Sports Medicine Didactics are in full swing! We have been doing ultrasound sessions with our faculty each week - knee and shoulder diagnostic US hands on learning ✅. We also have had the fellows from LSU Baton Rouge, Ochsner New Orleans, and Conway South Carolina Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs join us for our Lecture Bootcamp where we have been meeting up virtually to review material. Lastly Dr. Morgan got a taste of his first home game with UL Soccer! Geaux Cajuns!

Dr. Morgan, Dr. LaBorde, and Dr. Ross each got to experience a full concussion evaluation last week. They all had questionable balance and some were better than others at the fakuda. VOMS resulted in only one headache. They also had their first FM/IM continuity clinic day today. Stay tuned as the fall sport season ramps up over at UL 🤟

When you’re Program Director volunteers to be the down athlete for the EAP 😂. Week 1 is in the books and the new fellows are off - EAP training with the University of Louisiana athletic training staff and EMS! Great work guys and to think this was just Day 1 of fellowship haha.

Another week in the books! We had a blast at the UL and high school home games this week. UL clenched a great win in overtime….peak the photobomb by Dr. Phillips and the candid moment of her in the zone signaling the touchdown. The fellows also covered UL volleyball this week and their high school football games. We finished up joint US boot camp this past week as well. Is someone pressing the two time speed button on fellowship??…time is flying 🙃

Get up it’s game day!!!! Take a look at the fellows first UL game last week in the upgraded stadium! Nothing compares to the first time you join the team running out of the tunnel! Round 2 will be tonight.

Yesterday was Friday night lights with Southside and Comeaux High Schools! Both Dr. Fries and Dr. Deck were on the sidelines for their respective schools assisting the ATCs with medical coverage.

Fellowship 2025-2026 is in full swing!!!

High school jamboree this week. Excited to be covering sideline for Comeaux, Northside, and Southside this year! We had a special first game with Dr. Boateng and Dr. Fries’s teams playing each other.

All things UL! UL soccer and volleyball got the season rolling with our fellows. Stay tuned!!! The fellows get their first taste of UL Football sidelines today! Geaux Cajuns! 🤟

Out with the “old” and in with the “new”! August 1st was the first day for our new fellows. This year we have so many exciting changes and the first being expanding the program to 3 SM fellows yearly!

Dr. Boateng, Dr. Deck, and Dr. Fries hit the ground running! They have started seeing patients in clinic, completed emergency action plan training with UL athletic trainers and EMS, started sideline coverage with UL football practices and UL soccer. We finished our second didactic Friday, this week reviewing diagnostic ultrasounds of the knee and then lectures focused on knee pathology.

Lastly, our 2025-2026 fellows have officially graduated and both passed their Sports Medicine Board Exam!!! Bragging on an amazing program that gives each fellow an amazing year of clinic/field practical training but also prepares our fellows for the board exam appropriately. We continue to have 100% SM board exam pass rate!

Dr. Giang will be joining the Kelsey group in Houston doing 100% SM and Dr. Morton is sticking around with the program as a third SM faculty member! Excited to see them flourish as they take their next steps as attendings.
