September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, an annual observance dedicated to raising education, funding research, and supporting individuals affected by conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.

Key Facts and Focus Areas
• Frequency: Someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer every 3 minutes.
• Prevalence: Millions of people live with or are in remission from blood cancers nationwide.
• Affected Systems: These cancers—including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma—impact the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic system.

Common Signs and Symptoms
• Swollen or new lumps in the neck, armpits, or groin
• Drenching night sweats and sudden weight loss
• Severe bone pain or easy bruising
• Frequent or recurring infections

How Supportive Naturopathic Care Can Help
• When utilized alongside an oncologist's treatment plan, a qualified naturopathic doctor can help patients navigate standard treatments by providing:
• Symptom and Side Effect Management: Therapies such as acupuncture, stress management techniques, and specific nutritional guidance can alleviate common treatment side effects like nausea, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, and loss of appetite.
• Quality of Life Improvement: Lifestyle interventions like gentle movement, mindfulness, and sleep support help patients maintain physical strength and mental well-being during intense medical regimens.
• Dietary Guidance: Personalized nutrition plans can help support the immune system and prevent muscle wasting without interfering with ongoing cancer medications.

A C-reactive protein (CRP) test measures the level of C-reactive protein in your blood to check for general inflammation. CRP is a protein made by your liver that enters your bloodstream when tissues are hurt, infected, or inflamed.

What the Test Can and Cannot Do:
•Can do: Show if active inflammation or infection is present in your body and help doctors see if treatments or anti-inflammatory supplements are working.
•Cannot do: Pinpoint the exact location of the inflammation or name the specific disease causing it. Doctors must use other tests alongside CRP to find a diagnosis.

Autoinflammatory diseases are rare diseases that are often caused by genetic mutations that affect the innate immune system. Most of these diseases affect patients throughout their entire life, but a few may have onset in adulthood. Patients with autoinflammatory diseases (also known as periodic fever syndromes, or disorders of immune dysregluation) suffer from systemic inflammation, including fevers, rashes, pain, and organ involvement from head to toe with recurring, or chronic symptoms. With earlier diagnosis, and the proper treatment, many patients can have improved quality of life, and less complications or damage from these complex diseases.

Naturopathic medicine reduces inflammation by targeting its root causes through anti-inflammatory nutrition, targeted supplements, and lifestyle changes. It focuses on removing trigger foods, healing the gut, and lowering daily stress to calm the body's immune response.
