Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a colleague, or a community forever changed by substance use disorder and overdose.

Essential Anesthesia Management is honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Christopher Spillers, who passed away on August 6, 2026. Dr. Spillers worked alongside our team at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa.

His career in anesthesia spanned more than two decades, joining us in San Antonio in 2023. He was known for his intelligence, his persistence in finding the right answer and his devotion to his wife and two young sons.

We are grateful for the care he gave his patients and the colleague he was to our teams. Our hearts are with his family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of working beside him.

A first at CHRISTUS Health Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills👏

Essential Anesthesia CRNA, Tyler Brauneck, provided anesthesia alongside Dr. Juanita Garces for the hospital's first case using Medtronic's Stealth AXiS Surgical System—a lumbar instrumented fusion.

Stealth AXiS brings surgical planning, navigation and robotics onto one platform and tracks how the spine shifts during the case in real time, so the plan and the patient's actual anatomy stay lined up. It was approved by the FDA for spine procedures in February.

These cases run long, and the patient is prone for most of them. Anesthesia is on the airway, the hemodynamics and the positioning from start to finish steady in the background while a team works with equipment they're using here for the first time.
