🚨 NEMT PROVIDERS: PLEASE KNOW WHAT YOU’RE PAYING FOR BEFORE YOU PAY A “CREDENTIALING COMPANY.”

I’m seeing something in this industry that NEMT owners need to be aware of.

If someone tells you, “We can credential your NEMT company directly with Medicare, Medicaid, and all the major commercial insurance companies,” please ask questions before handing over your money.

A traditional Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) company is NOT the same thing as a Medicare-enrolled ambulance supplier.

Medicare generally does not enroll ordinary NEMT transportation companies simply because they transport patients to medical appointments.

Medicaid NEMT is also heavily dependent on the state and its transportation delivery model. In many markets, transportation is coordinated through large transportation brokers and networks, and smaller NEMT companies participate by contracting with those networks rather than simply credentialing directly with every payer.

Companies such as Modivcare and SafeRide Health operate transportation networks that contract with health plans and government programs and build networks of transportation providers.

That distinction matters.

Before you pay anyone thousands of dollars for “Medicare and Medicaid credentialing,” ask them:

👉 What exact provider type are you enrolling me as?
👉 What enrollment application are you submitting?
👉 Will my company receive its own billing privileges with the payer?
👉 Will I bill the payer directly, or am I actually joining a transportation broker/network?
👉 What state-specific Medicaid requirements apply to my company?
👉 Can you show me the payer’s actual enrollment requirements?

If they cannot clearly answer those questions, do not write the check.

There is a major difference between NEMT contracting, Medicaid transportation network participation, commercial payer contracting, and Medicare ambulance enrollment.

A legitimate credentialing professional should explain that difference before taking your money — not after.

NEMT owners work too hard to build their companies to lose thousands of dollars paying someone for an enrollment that may not even exist for their provider type.

Do your homework. Ask for the regulations. Ask for the provider type. Ask how you will actually get paid.

Credentialing isn’t about submitting applications.
It’s about knowing which applications you’re actually eligible to submit.

Bidding may be free. Competing isn’t.

That’s one of the lessons I’m continuing to learn in government contracting.

Some opportunities are fairly simple to pursue. You prepare your response, upload it electronically, hit submit, and you’re done.

Then there are the others. 😅

The solicitation I’m preparing now requires one original proposal plus six copies to be physically submitted.

That means printing. Paper. Ink. Tabs. Folders or binders. Packaging. Shipping. And, most importantly, time.

And you spend all of that before knowing whether you’re going to win the contract.

It reminded me of something important for small businesses entering the government contracting space:

We have to be strategic about the bids we pursue.

Not every solicitation deserves a response simply because we’re capable of doing the work. I have to ask myself:

Does this opportunity align with my company’s services and long-term goals?

Can we perform the contract successfully?

Is the potential return worth the time and resources required to compete?

Do we have a legitimate chance of winning?

Because while it may not cost anything to click “download” on an RFP, putting together a responsive, compliant, competitive proposal absolutely has a cost.

But here’s the other side of it:

Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

A few hundred dollars spent pursuing the right opportunity could potentially lead to a contract worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.

There’s no guarantee.

That’s business.

So I’m learning not to chase every opportunity.

I’m learning to strategically invest in the right ones.

Now, back to printing these copies. 😂📄

🚨 SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS… ARE Y’ALL PAYING ATTENTION TO GOVCON?

We spend so much time trying to figure out how to make money locally, find the next client, run another ad, or chase another lead…

Meanwhile, the federal government awarded approximately $179 BILLION in prime contracts to SMALL BUSINESSES in FY2025. 🤯💰

Yes. $179 BILLION.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses received nearly 28% of federal prime contracting dollars in FY2025 — exceeding the federal government’s 23% small-business contracting goal.

Read that again.

The government is literally required to create opportunities for small businesses — businesses like mine and yours.

And they are buying EVERYTHING.

Healthcare services.
Medical billing and revenue cycle management.
Consulting.
IT.
Staffing.
Construction.
Transportation.
Administrative support.
Training.
Professional services.

The list goes on.

So while everybody is fighting over the same local customers, I’m learning how to position my company to compete for a piece of a $179 BILLION small-business federal marketplace.

That’s why I keep telling small business owners:

👉🏽 STOP THINKING TOO SMALL.

Your next customer might not be another individual or local company.

Your next customer could be the United States Government. 🇺🇸

GovCon isn’t quick money. You have to learn the process, become procurement-ready, build relationships, submit bids, hear “no,” and KEEP GOING.

But the money is being spent.

The question is: Is your business positioned to compete for it?

💡 Monday RCM Insight: A Denied Claim Often Started Long Before It Reached the Payer.

One of the biggest misconceptions in healthcare is that revenue cycle problems begin in the billing department.

In reality, many payment delays and denials can be traced back to the front end of the revenue cycle.

A missing authorization.
Incorrect insurance information.
Incomplete documentation.
Credentialing or enrollment issues.
Medical necessity requirements that weren’t addressed.
A small demographic error that follows the claim all the way to the payer.

By the time the claim reaches billing, the problem may already exist.

At ELS Medical Billing Group, LLC, we believe strong revenue cycle management means looking beyond claim submission. It means identifying where revenue is being interrupted, correcting the process, and helping healthcare organizations build a stronger path from patient encounter to payment.

Because the goal isn’t simply to bill more claims.

The goal is to build a healthier revenue cycle.

Sometimes the biggest obstacle standing between where you are and where you want to be isn’t a lack of talent—it’s fear.

There comes a moment when you have to stop waiting for the perfect time, stop doubting yourself, and take the step anyway.

Believe in your ideas.
Believe in your abilities.
Believe that your hard work today can create opportunities tomorrow.

Faith doesn’t always mean you’ll know exactly how everything will work out. Sometimes it simply means having the courage to move forward even when you can’t see the entire path.

Whether you’re starting a business, changing careers, going back to school, or chasing a dream you’ve carried for years, don’t let fear make the decision for you.

You don’t have to have all the answers today. You just have to be willing to take the next step.

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up.

Your future is built by the decisions you’re willing to make today.

Believe in yourself. You may be capable of far more than you realize.

🤖 Hot Topic: Is AI Replacing Medical Billers? Not So Fast.

Artificial Intelligence is changing healthcare—but when it comes to medical billing, coding, and revenue cycle management, human expertise is still essential.

AI can:
✅ Help identify trends
✅ Speed up repetitive tasks
✅ Assist with claim reviews
✅ Improve workflow efficiency

But AI can’t replace:
🔹 Critical thinking
🔹 Compliance expertise
🔹 Complex payer knowledge
🔹 Appeal strategy
🔹 Accurate documentation review
🔹 The experience needed to maximize reimbursement while staying compliant

The future isn’t AI vs. people—it’s AI working alongside experienced healthcare revenue cycle professionals.

Healthcare organizations that combine technology with knowledgeable billing experts will be the ones that improve cash flow, reduce denials, and stay ahead of constantly changing regulations.

Question for healthcare professionals:
Do you believe AI will completely replace medical billing professionals, or will it simply become another tool to help us do our jobs more effectively?

👇 I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
