New Leaf Holistic Health with Julie Six

New Leaf Holistic Health with Julie Six Resolving metabolic chaos using Functional Lab Testing and CGMs to restore your health. Eating for nourishment is in your control but you may need to learn HOW.

My mission is to help people cultivate physical and mental resilience through the wisdom of nutrition and the art of counseling. My functional nutrition education includes in-depth knowledge of the full-body systems and how your body processes food and other inputs that impact your overall health. The biggest misconception about nutrition is often that it is just about what to eat and what not to

eat. While it may include that, on a much deeper level it is about optimizing the function of your body's organs and every cell in your body. Food, intentional movement, sleep, rest, play, connection, as well as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and enzymes all play key roles in feeling one’s best. I will apply the "art and science" of nutrition and will customize diet and lifestyle factors suitable for your individual needs and priorities. Even though we are living in the “age of wellness”, most people will admit there’s a disconnect between what we know and what we are doing. Confusing external messages from the food and diet industry, overwhelming on-line options, and decision fatigue leave us feeling empty, depleted, and defeated. You are not meant to feel weighed down, exhausted, hurried, harried, stressed, groggy, cranky, bloated, depleted, depressed, or like you are on the hot-mess express. You need and deserve answers as to why you are feeling the way you do and what you can do to course-correct and start feeling like YOU again. When it comes to your health, having an advocate on your side offering education, empathy, gentle leadership, and solutions you can trust is often the difference between success or being stuck, hitting a plateau or making progress, digressing into more and more dis-ease or learning tips and tools for taking back your health while having some fun and making your body functional again. I am committed to working with those who want to learn the hope they can have when their health is back in their hands. They are ready to do the work, while receiving individualized support on their wellness journey. If you have been looking for real solutions to the root of your health issues and are ready, with courage and commitment to change, you’ve come to the right place! I would be delighted and honored to help. VISIT: https://www.newleafnutrition.net/ to get started!

Sometimes nutrition gets reduced to carbs, fats, and protein.

But food is so much more than numbers.

🥑 An avocado isn’t just fat.
🫐 Blueberries aren’t just carbs.
🥚🥚 Eggs aren’t just protein.

Whole, minimally processed foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, olive oil, eggs, and quality proteins do more than provide carbs, fats, or protein.

They also deliver vitamins, minerals, fiber, and supportive compounds your body knows exactly how to use.

So yes, macros matter…
but food quality matters even more.

Start there, and a lot of other things fall into place. 💚

I help women whose bodies feel stuck, reactive, and depleted understand why their system is overwhelmed — and strategically guide it back toward stability. 💚

They're doing everything they know.
They're doing everything they can.
It's not because they lack discipline.
And not because they need to try harder.

Often, their bodies have simply been under stress for too long and the things that worked before, aren't any longer.

There's too much conflicting health advice.
And there's too little time to sort through it all.
And there's a life longing to be lived that needs something(s) to change.

I do this work because I’ve seen what happens — in my own life and in the lives of so many women — when the nervous system is supported, the body is nourished, and the missing pieces of their health story finally start to come together.

Digestion becomes more predictable.
Sleep gets more regular -- deeper.
Inflammation goes down.
Skin rashes disappear.
Anxiety settles.
Energy (& hope) begins to return.
The body sighs relief as it begins to feel safer again.

This is the work I love! 💓
Designing a life that feels good on the INSIDE!

Helping women reconnect with their bodies…
understand what their symptoms are trying to say…
and build steady, sustainable health from the inside out.

And if your body has been feeling overwhelmed lately,
please know it's your system simply asking for support and you don't have to figure it out alone.

There IS a path forward. 🥾🏔️

Last Chance -- Let’s Practice Together

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been talking about breathwork — how it can support digestion, sleep, anxiety, and energy.

And while awareness is an important first step, real change comes only through practice.

I once read something by Brene' Brown about yoga that stuck with me (my paraphrase):
You can have a "yoga-attitude". You might value mindfulness, breathing, and body-mind connection…you can even have the outfits. But until you step onto the mat and practice, that attitude will or way of thinking will never translate into behavior.

The same is true for breathwork. You may have liked and even agreed with these posts. If you're reading this, I would guess that you have a breathwork-attitude. But the change you're curious about will only happen when you put that attitude into action.

Reading about breathing is helpful.
But something special happens when you experience it —
when you feel your nervous system settle,
your shoulders drop,
your breath slow and deepen.

That’s why I am hosting this professionally guided workshop.
Not to teach complicated techniques or theory.
Not to overwhelm you with information.

But to offer you a safe, supportive space to practice —
step by step. 💛

💛 Prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish. It’s essential.💛

Especially for the woman who, intentionally or accidentally, carries the load for everyone else.

The one who remembers the appointments, keeps the calendar moving, holds space for others, and keeps showing up — even when she’s dog-tired.

- You may be the strong one.
- The dependable one.
- The one others lean on.

And that’s a beautiful thing. It really is. But, sister, strength doesn’t mean going without support. And caring for others doesn’t mean forgetting yourself. 😔

Sometimes self-care looks less like a spa day
and more like a quiet moment to breathe…
to let your shoulders drop…
to feel your nervous system soften, even just a little.

Not because everything is finally done. But because your body deserves support, too. ❤️‍🩹

If you’ve been running on empty, holding tension in your shoulders, or feeling like you’re always “on,” this might be a gentle place to start.

❇️ A few minutes to slow down.
❇️ A safe space to breathe.
❇️ A chance to feel what it’s like when your body finally exhales.

And if you’ve been thinking about joining the breathwork experience, consider this your gentle nudge.

Not pressure. Just permission. 💚

Meet Melissa 💛

I’d love to introduce you to the wonderful guide who will be leading our upcoming:
Breathe Better * Feel Better
virtual breathwork experience.

Melissa Marek is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, certified yoga teacher, and trained Breath Coach who specializes in helping people restore calm, reduce pain, and reconnect with their bodies.

Her journey into this work began after a serious back injury in her early 20s.

When traditional treatments didn’t bring lasting relief, she began exploring yoga, meditation, and breath-based practices — tools that ultimately helped her heal and regain her quality of life.

Over the past two decades, Melissa has combined clinical training in physical therapy and spinal care with mind-body practices such as trauma-sensitive yoga and breathwork.
Her approach blends science, compassion, and practical tools that people can use in everyday life.

What I appreciate most about Melissa is her belief that healing is possible and worth the work — and one of the most powerful tools we have is something we carry with us every moment:

OUR BREATH! 🌿

During our workshop, she will gently guide you step-by-step through breathing practices designed to help your nervous system settle and your body feel more at ease.

If you’ve been curious about breathwork but unsure where to start, this is a safe and supportive place to begin.

We hope you’ll join us. 💚

One of the most common things I hear from women is: “My labs are normal… but I still don’t feel like myself.” 😩

That experience can feel confusing and deeply discouraging.

Standard lab work is incredibly valuable. It helps rule out serious conditions and provides important information about how the body is functioning.

But sometimes the numbers don’t tell the whole story.

In functional health, we often look for the missing pieces that can help explain symptoms more clearly.

Things like:
• when testing was done
• how hormones fluctuate throughout the day or month
• nutrient availability inside the cells
• gut, liver, and nervous system influences
• and the patterns connecting everything together

Most importantly, we look at you — your health timeline, your symptoms, your stressors, your habits, and your lived experience.

Because symptoms are often the body’s way of asking for support long before disease appears on routine testing.

When we begin putting those pieces of the puzzle together, things often start to make more sense.

📌 If this post resonated with you, you may want to save it so you can revisit these ideas the next time your health feels confusing or frustrating.

And if you’re ready to explore your own patterns more deeply, the Wellness Reset is where we begin. 👉🔗

Energy Breath (Up-Regulating)

Feeling low on energy is incredibly common. And most of us reach for stimulation to push through.

Coffee. Sugar. More willpower.

I get it! We all need a little support to get moving sometimes.

But before reaching for another source of artificial energy,
there’s a simple way to give your body a natural boost —
your breath.

A slightly faster breathing pattern can gently stimulate your nervous system, increase circulation, and help you feel more alert and ready to move.

This is often called an Energy Breath — an up-regulating technique that can be helpful:
• first thing in the morning
• before exercise or movement
• before focused work or a busy task

Try this simple practice:

Sit or stand comfortably
Breathe in and out through your nose
Increase your pace to about 20 breaths per minute
Continue for 30–60 seconds

Then return to your normal breathing rhythm and notice how you feel.

A quick note: This technique is meant to be used briefly and at appropriate times. Avoid practicing while driving, and listen to your body.

This is similar to one of the stimulating techniques we’ll practice together in my upcoming virtual workshop:

Your Thyroid & Adrenals

Many women are told their thyroid is the problem. But often the thyroid is simply responding to stress happening elsewhere in the body.

Your adrenal glands and thyroid are part of the same communication network. One that is constantly listening to your nervous system.

When stress becomes chronic, the body may begin conserving energy to protect you.

That can feel like:
• Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest
• Slower metabolism or stubborn weight changes
• Feeling wired but tired
• Increased sensitivity/reactivity to stress
• Brain fog or low motivation

These are signs that your system has been working beyond capacity for a long time.

But when the nervous system feels supported, the body often begins to shift out of conservation mode.

✨ Energy becomes easier to access.
✨ Hormones communicate more effectively.
✨ Metabolism becomes more responsive.

What I LOVE and it's FREE, is that one of the simplest ways to support that shift is through your breath!

Try this:
Take 4 slow breaths right now.
Inhale through your nose for a count of 4.
Exhale slowly for a count of 6 or 8.

That longer exhale signals safety to the nervous system. And over time, those small signals can help train your body to move from survival mode back toward balance.

You don’t have to overhaul everything to support your hormones. Sometimes the first step is simply helping your body feel safe enough to use the energy it already has.

➡️ If your body has been feeling tired, reactive, or stuck, this is a gentle place to begin.

Hi, I’m Julie, a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner.
I help women understand the deeper patterns behind fatigue, metabolism changes, and hormone imbalance — and guide their system back toward stability so energy, digestion, and resilience can return. 💚

⬇️ When energy feels low, our first instinct is often to push harder… more coffee, more willpower, more productivity.

But true, sustainable energy usually starts with supporting the nervous system, not forcing the body.

Simple practices like these send signals of safety and regulation. And when your nervous system feels supported, energy often follows.

Things like:
❇️ Breathwork
❇️ Prayer or meditation
❇️ Singing
❇️ Giving to others
❇️ Time outside
❇️ Tapping
❇️ Movement

All of these gently shift your body out of stress mode and back toward better balance.

And if I had to choose just one place to start,
I’d begin with your breath.

Your breath is one of the fastest, most accessible ways to calm the nervous system, support digestion, and help your body feel more steady — often within minutes.

💛 When women first find my work, they often feel depleted and overwhelmed.

They’ve tried different diets, supplements, or advice, but they’re still not sure what their body actually needs.

That’s completely understandable. The body is complex, symptoms rarely exist in isolation, and most healthcare does look holistically at the body.

Here's how I help women reconnect with their body and rebuild their health. ➡️

Instead of chasing one symptom at a time, my work focuses on stepping back and looking at the bigger picture so we can start connecting the dots.

After a complimentary Discovery Call, that process usually begins with the Wellness Reset.

This is where we:
🔹 review your health story and genetics
🔹 construct your functional timeline
🔹 assess symptoms and patterns
🔹 connect the dots in your blood work
🔹 design your Initial Wellness Map with top recommendations you can begin right away

After we identify patterns that may be influencing how your body is functioning, from there, we rebuild strong foundations, and explore deeper testing when it makes sense.

The goal is always the same:
To help you better understand your body and create the conditions where it can move back toward balance.

🙋‍♀️ If you’re new here and wondering where to start, the Discovery Call is designed as a simple, no commitment first step to connect and explore your options.

And if you’re simply here to learn and understand your health more deeply, I’m glad you’re here. I invite you to join my New Leaf Gold Nuggets Newsletter where you'll get monthly tips and tricks to support your health journey. 💌

If you'd like stop guessing what might be going on and what you need to do. Reach out.

Your body is always communicating. Sometimes it just needs a translator. Someone who can help you learn to nourish and nurture yourself back to health. 💚
