Bladder Cancer is so highly recurrent that we don’t get to ring a bell when we’re NED (no evidence of disease). My friends came up with this BRILLIANT idea. I’m so happy they shared it with the rest of our community. I survived a recurrence because I am RESILIENT! Order your Resilience Bell at

Part of my emotional health journey right now is learning to accept the highs and lows of my cancer journey. Part of that is accepting and acknowledging that there are highs and lows of living post bladder removal. Love my Indiana Pouch, but there are challenges. Was grateful for BCG treatment in the early stages of my cancer treatment - hadn’t realized (or maybe acknowledged) the side effects I was living with.

There is nothing better than being around people who understand what it’s like to live with an Indiana Pouch every day. If you have an IP or are scheduled for IP surgery, come join us. If you’re facing radical cystectomy and want to learn about the Indiana Pouch, we’ll put together a small group to share our journeys and answer your questions. DM me!

There are a few things our surgeons monitor after a radical cystectomy with an Indiana Pouch. EGFR for kidney function is a big one. Another one that I just failed the test for (only kidding) is B12. Low B12 can be an issue for people with an Indiana Pouch. Understanding how my surgeon built my pouch helped me to understand my risk for B12 deficiency. My low B12 may or may not be pouch related. We’ll start with oral supplements and I’ll meet with my registered dietician, which is part of my weight management plan anyway, and recheck in 8 weeks.

No bladder diversion after radical cystectomy is perfect. they ALL have pros and cons. And, things that you can do to make them as simple as possible. Yesterday morning, I forgot my one Indiana Pouch Golden Rule. Set my emptying alarms with my first cup of coffee to make my Pouch Chronicles go well for the day!

I am cancer free and healthy 11 years after diagnosis because 1) I called my doctor the first time I saw ONE drop of blood in my urine and 2) she immediately did a urine screen and sent me to a urologist. Don’t put off dealing with urinary symptoms. For more info

I’m still laughing about this 10 hours later, precisely because it’s so true. There is no going back to normal after having one organ (your bladder) removed and having a new one made out of another organ (your colon). Grateful? Yes! Normal? No! That’s Indiana Pouch Life!

My life was massively changed twice by bladder cancer. First in 2015 when I was diagnosed. You cannot hear the word cancer without panic, fear and so much more. Then in 2022 when I heard it again and went to immediate bladder removal. There were no other options for me then. And while yes, I love my Indiana Pouch, this isn’t a choice anyone would make.

I Walk to:
Raise funds to support more research and development
Drive Awareness that Blood in Your Urine is NOT normal
Let young women know that recurring UTI’s should be addressed by a urologist

If you’re in the New York Tri State Area, join my team, or create your own and Walk with us on May 31. If not, please consider supporting us with a donation.

Thank you!
