A wound should get better over time, not worse. If healing seems slow or something doesn’t feel right, it may be time to have it checked.

Watch for warning signs like increased pain, redness, swelling, drainage, odor, warmth around the area, fever, or a wound that hasn’t improved after 2–4 weeks. These can all be signs that medical care is needed.

Early treatment can help prevent complications and support better healing outcomes.

🚧 Lake City Clinic Entrance Update 🚧

We are currently installing new entrance doors at the Lake City Clinic to improve our facility for patients and visitors.

The Clinic entrance will remain open during the installation process. If access through the entrance becomes temporarily unavailable, our team will direct patients to an alternate entrance.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make these improvements. If you have any questions, please contact the clinic prior to your appointment.

Healing a wound takes more than time. It takes the right care.

At Stewart Memorial Hospital & Clinics, our wound care approach is thorough, proactive, and personalized. Because many non-healing wounds have more than one cause, we start with a detailed assessment and diagnostic testing to understand what’s affecting healing, including circulation, infection, and overall health factors.

From there, we build a customized treatment plan designed specifically for your wound and your needs. Your care may include a combination of traditional and advanced therapies to support faster, more effective healing.

You’ll continue with regular follow-up visits at our Outpatient Specialty Center so we can monitor progress, adjust treatment as needed, and ensure you’re on the best path to recovery. Staying consistent with appointments and following your care plan makes a real difference in healing outcomes.

At Stewart Memorial Hospital and Clinics, our Registered Nurse Infusion Specialists provide infusion and injection services by physician referral.

Once a referral is received, our nurses carry out the ordered treatment and stay with patients throughout the process. They place and maintain vascular access devices when needed, administer infusions or injections, monitor responses, review lab results, and complete dressing changes as needed. They also take time to explain each step so patients know what to expect and feel more at ease during care.

Our infusion nursing team includes:
Tara Barrett, RN
Laura Roberts, RN
Sayer Steig, RN

Kathy Hammen has faced ongoing orthopedic and spine challenges for many years, including multiple surgeries that made walking and daily activities increasingly difficult.

Before her most recent spinal surgery, she worked with Jill Birks and the physical therapy team in Rockwell City to build strength and prepare for recovery.

After surgery, Kathy faced setbacks, including a fall and a fractured knee, followed by time in a nursing facility and ongoing rehabilitation. Her therapy focused on rebuilding strength, balance, and confidence step by step.

With more than 30 physical therapy visits, Kathy has regained much of her independence and can now walk most distances without assistance. She is also back to doing things she enjoys, like gardening and spending time with her dogs.

“They are good to me from when I walk in to when I walk out,” Kathy said.
