💙🤍❤️ Today is National PTSD Awareness Day. ❤️🤍💙
With the Fourth of July right around the corner, we felt it was important to talk about the impact of fireworks beyond the celebration.
While fireworks can be fun and festive, they can also be a serious trigger for individuals living with PTSD—especially veterans, first responders, and trauma survivors. Sudden loud explosions and flashing lights may cause anxiety, panic attacks, or distressing memories to resurface.
🟥⬜🟦 Here are a few ways you can help be more mindful this season: 🟦⬜🟥
🔴 Give a heads-up. Let your neighbors know in advance if you plan to shoot fireworks. A simple courtesy can make a big difference.
⚪ Choose quieter options. Consider fireworks labeled "low-noise" or "silent." They can still provide a great display while reducing the chance of triggering someone nearby.
🔵 Respect time limits. Avoid setting off fireworks late at night or for multiple days in a row.
🔴 Be aware of your surroundings. Individuals living with PTSD, pets, and young children can all be affected by loud and unexpected fireworks.
Many of our heroes carry invisible wounds. Being kind and considerate with fireworks is one small way we can show respect and care. ❤️🤍💙
If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, know that support is available and you are not alone.
