I need to give the BIGGEST, loudest, most heartfelt thank-you to Scott and his wife, Phoebe, of Scott’s Fish Hunts for sending $50 toward my new business banner! Phoebe also brings their dog to train with me, so they’ve already supported one side of my small-business life—and now they’ve reached out to support this part of it too. I honestly don’t think people always realize how much something like that means to a small-business owner.

That wasn’t just $50 toward a sign. That was two people saying, “We see what you’re building, we believe in it, and we want to help you keep going.” That kind of support hits me right in the heart.

This is what keeping money moving in our local economy looks like: small businesses and local families supporting one another, believing in one another, and helping each other grow. WOW. Thank you, Blackberry Festival! We sold out of every kind of 2-ounce tincture. We sold out of magnesium spray. We sold out of Arnica CBD rollers. Like… WHAT?! That is absolutely amazing.

So many of you stuck around my booth and let me chat your ear off about mustard baths, mullein, elderberry, Arnica, and all the herbs I love—and I met so many people who just felt like my people.

Every purchase supports my little family, my daughter’s ballet lessons, and this strange, beautiful little business I’m building one batch at a time. My whole family thanks you. Truly. I’m already excited for the next one!

One little roller, three Northern California small businesses.

Someone who loves my Arnica + CBD Roller recently asked whether I had ever considered putting it in a “nicer” oil—maybe something more commonly associated with luxury skincare, like jojoba. I understood what she meant, but it made me think about what “nice” means to me as a maker.

I could order a fashionable carrier oil from a large supplier, but I wouldn’t know who grew it, where it came from or how it was produced. The olive oil I use comes from Le Vin Winery & Vineyards, a family-run winery in the Yorkville Highlands near Cloverdale. Their extra-virgin olive oil begins with organically grown olives harvested on their own 164-acre ranch. The CBD I blend into it is also locally sourced, from Sonoma County CBD and produced from CBD-rich h**p grown here in Northern California.

Then those ingredients come to Medicine Makers, where I slowly infuse the olive oil with arnica for nine months before blending in the CBD and turning it into the rollers, massage oil and CBD bath salts you see on my table.

That means purchasing one of these little rollers supports more than my own small business. It supports the local family growing the olives, the local grower producing the CBD and my family as I turn their ingredients into something entirely new.

I wild-harvest some of the plants I work with myself. When I can’t grow or gather an ingredient, I look for people close to home who can. For me, making something well isn’t about choosing the ingredient with the fanciest name. It’s about knowing where my ingredients came from, choosing them intentionally and taking the time to turn them into something I’m proud to put my name on.

That sounds pretty darn nice to me.
