You’ve struggled to stay consistent, so you decide you’re an inconsistent person.
You’ve eaten in response to stress, so you call yourself an emotional eater.
You’ve stopped and restarted several times, so you believe you always quit.
But a repeated behavior is still a behavior. It isn’t a permanent character trait.
When you treat the behavior as proof of who you are, every difficult moment reinforces the belief. When you treat it as a pattern that can be understood and practiced differently, the same moment becomes useful information.
That’s growth mindset in practice. It isn’t blindly telling yourself everything will work out. It’s believing your skills, responses, and habits can be developed, then becoming willing to examine and practice them.
