The Luis Danvers Leukemia Fund extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Kyle Owens, a talented athlete and leader gone far too soon.

At just 24, Kyle’s life and legacy remind us that cancer doesn’t discriminate—it impacts bright, strong, and promising young lives every day. His strength, spirit, and leadership will never be forgotten.

We stand with his loved ones and the entire Southern California basketball community during this heartbreaking time. May his memory continue to inspire others to keep fighting, keep believing, and keep advocating for awareness and a cure.

A native of Southern California and a Crespi Carmelite High School graduate, Kyle Owens received his devastating leukemia diagnosis during his senior year at UC Riverside.

I am beyond grateful for the countless blessings in my life. Every challenge I’ve faced has made me stronger, every victory has humbled me, and every person who has walked with me on this journey has left an imprint on my heart.

I thank God, my family, friends, and community for their unwavering support, love, and encouragement. My gratitude overflows, and I carry it with me in everything I do.

As I reflect on where I've been, I’m also excited and ready for all the different adventures that lie ahead. I look forward to every new chapter with an open heart and mind, knowing that the best is yet to come.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

This month, we honor the brave souls—young and old—who are fighting against cancer. Blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma impact so many lives, and childhood cancer steals precious moments from the youngest among us.

Let’s stand together to raise awareness, support families, and push for continued research. Every voice and every action counts in the fight for a cure.

African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month is celebrated in July. This month raises awareness of the health disparity that affects Black and African American patients who are in need of life-saving cell therapies.

Here are some reasons why African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month is important:

Finding a match: Black and African American patients have a lower chance of finding a matching donor than other ethnicities. For example, African American patients only have a 25% chance of finding a match, compared to a 75% chance for Caucasian patients.

Ethnicity and tissue types: Some ethnic groups have more complex tissue types than others. This means that a person's best chance of finding a donor may be with someone of the same ethnic background.

Donating marrow: Donating marrow can cure someone with life-threatening blood cancers.

I am a Be The Match Ambassador and I am proud to represent myself, my son Luis Danvers, and my nonprofit Luis Danvers Leukemia Fund (LDLF) promoting and spreading awareness about blood cancers including leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, and aplastic anemia.

Did you know

In the United States, blood cancers, which include leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, account for about 10% of all diagnosed cancers each year. One in 16 men and one in 22 women will develop blood cancer at some point in their lives. It's also the most common type of childhood cancer, with more than 500 children under 15 diagnosed each year.

When it comes to the bone marrow registry African American patients have a 29% chance of finding a donor match. Asian or Pacific Islander patients have a 47% chance of finding a donor match. Hispanic or Latino patients have a 48% chance of finding a donor match. Native American patients have a 60% chance of finding a donor match.

September is not considered "African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month"; July is designated as African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month where efforts are focused on raising awareness about the need for diverse bone marrow donors within the African American community.

I want to say thank you to my beautiful daughter Tamia Victoria who is the princess. I just want to say I love her so very much. She is so talented, intelligent humble, and a real true to earth, Leo. I just really want to see her go so far in life because she has so much to give to the world.

By the way, I know I don’t say it enough but I thank you for everything that you do for me. I rely on you so much and I know that could be something that could be annoying. However, it means so much to me to have you hold me down.

So he has to 21 years. I hope you live another 121 years. Stay blessed my cutie pie. ♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹

P.S. I truly love all of my kids and grandkids. They are truly blessings from God. 🙏🏽
