There’s a ton of benefit in bringing variety into your yoga practice.

Physically, you may be moving your joints in less common ways, engaging muscles slightly differently.

Cognitively, you have to problem solve in unfamiliar territory. It can make you more focused and present than repeating the familiar.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely a proponent of consistency, understanding the benefits of repetition in practice. (As an Ashtangi I know this first hand!)

But I also know that introducing new postures has been the best way to find new depth and perspective to the ones I practice the most often.

Exciting News! We’re adding an extra special solstice practice with the Sangha on June 20th from 7:30-9:30 AM MST!

The summer solstice is just around the corner, which means we’re invited to make time and space (and energy) for 108 of something.

Many of us eccentric yogis aspire to complete 108 sun salutations (some even perform 54 surya namaskar A and 54 surya namaskar B!!). Others perform any derivation of 108 sun salutes- 9, 18, 36, 54… Or there is the option of performing any number of sun salutations and then any number of deep ujjayi breaths or mantra recitations or eye blinks or broom sweeps while cleaning your floor or…

You can see there is plenty of room for variety so the practice becomes less about what you’re doing and more about how you do it. The practice will begin by introducing variations from gentle and easy to strong and firey. Then, you’ll be off on your own to bask in the meditation of your movement. Come for any portion or the entire thing- it’s your space for setting intention and receiving the summer season!
