🔝Top Lessons from the Erchonia Corporation Laser Expo 🔝
My brain is still buzzing (pun intended) from the Erchonia Laser Expo. I came home with pages of notes, so I want to share my top lessons with you, because this is exactly the kind of science that changes how we care for patients.
✍️ Lesson 1: It all starts with absorption.
Dr. Jeremy Schmoe explained the foundation beautifully. Photobiomodulation works because light is absorbed by chromophores, which are light-sensitive molecules within our cells and organelles. That absorption converts light energy into molecular excitations, which then trigger a whole cascade of electrochemical, photophysical and photochemical reactions. Light isn't heating the tissue. It's being absorbed and turned into biology. That one distinction explains why the right wavelength matters so much more than raw power.
🧠Lesson 2: The brain responds through neurovascular coupling.
Neurons and blood vessels work as a team. When neurons become more active, blood flow to that region increases to meet the demand. This is neurovascular coupling, and it's one of the ways Low Level Laser Therapy supports the brain in restoring healthy neuronal function. For those of us who work with brain-based care, this is a huge piece of the puzzle. We aren't only supporting the tissue, we're supporting the environment the neurons need to thrive.
🔦 Lesson 3: Three wavelengths, three clinical advantages.
Dr. Kirk Gair DC, one of the most knowledgable clinicians in the world on Low Level Laser Therapy, broke it down:
🟣 Violet supports antimicrobial effects and parasympathetic support. For patients who are stuck in a stressed, sympathetic state, that parasympathetic piece is incredibly valuable.
🟢 Green supports collagen and stem cell signaling, which makes it a strong tool for tissue repair and regeneration.
đź”´ Red modulates prostaglandins and COX-1 and COX-2 activity and supports cell proliferation. If you know anything about inflammation and pain pathways, you know why that matters clinically.
Each wavelength has a job. When you understand what each color does, you stop guessing and start choosing your treatment with intention.
👨‍⚕️ Lesson 4: The autism research is exciting.
fMRI imaging of children with autism showed increased blood flow to the brain with Low Level Laser Therapy. Seeing that change on brain imaging is powerful, and it connects directly back to neurovascular coupling. This is still an emerging area of research, but it's one I'm watching very closely.
🦶Lesson 5: Real relief for diabetic neuropathy patients.
Patients with diabetic neuropathy saw a 30% reduction in foot pain when using Low Level Laser Therapy. Anyone who has worked with these patients knows how limited their options can be and how much that pain affects their daily life. Having another evidence-based, non-invasive option to offer is a big deal.
My biggest takeaway?
Low Level Laser Therapy isn't a trend. The science is deep, the research keeps growing, and the clinical applications keep expanding. It doesn't replace the work we already do with our hands and our rehab. It gives our patients' cells the capacity to respond better to that work.
And here's some great news for our community 🙌
Erchonia has extended the opportunity to set up a complimentary Clinic Consultation with their team. The purpose of the call is simple: find out which lasers meet the needs of YOUR clinic so you can support the best possible results for your patients. Whether you're getting your first laser or adding to what you already have, this call will give you clinical clarity.
