What is it really like to receive an ADHD diagnosis as an adult? This new review dives deep into how this experience shapes a person’s sense of self, relationships, and interactions with healthcare systems. Adults describe diagnosis as a turning point that brings clearer self-understanding but sometimes also confusion and grief. Socially, it opens doors to better communication but can also bring stigma and tough choices about sharing the diagnosis. Many face barriers and delays in getting help.

This research reminds us that diagnosis is more than a label—it’s a complex, deeply personal journey. Learn more:

Objective: With rising numbers of adults seeking and receiving ADHD diagnoses, understanding their first-hand experiences of the diagnostic process is key for s...

This week in public health: a hantavirus scare on a cruise ship, confusing Medicare Supplement choices, and major gaps between SSDI and Medicaid.

These stories may seem unrelated, but they all show the same thing: health depends on strong systems. We need fast disease surveillance, clear health coverage information, and safety nets that actually work for the people who need them.

If you receive SSDI, don’t assume you’re automatically eligible for Medicaid. Unlike SSI recipients, you face a patchwork of state rules and income limits that determine your coverage—especially during the Medicare waiting period. Many SSDI recipients risk being uninsured for up to two years unless they qualify for Medicaid or other safety nets.

Find out how your state handles this complex puzzle.

SSDI does not automatically come with Medicaid. Learn which states auto-enroll you, income limits, and how to get covered during the Medicare waiting period.

A deadly hantavirus outbreak onboard a cruise ship has infected multiple passengers and caused several deaths, spreading to several countries via travelers. Unlike most hantaviruses, the Andes strain can transmit between humans through close contact, raising serious concerns. But experts insist the global risk is low—for now.

What does this mean for pandemic preparedness, and how should public health systems respond? Find out more here:

As efforts to contain the Andes hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius is underway, Medical News Today speaks to medical experts to fact check the latest claims around the spread of this disease.

Calories have become a nutrition shorthand, but focusing on them alone misses the bigger picture. Essential nutrients—carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water—are all non-negotiable for your body to function.

Deficiencies often take months to show and can quietly undermine your health. Understanding nutrient density instead of empty calories is critical to preventing chronic disease and metabolic dysfunction.

Explore how nutrient quality shapes health here:

Learn how nutrients work, the six essential classes, food sources, and how macros, micros, and dietary reference values affect health.

A new federal funding rule is using the phrase “Gold Standard Science.” That sounds good. We all want public health research to be rigorous, transparent, and useful.

But here’s the problem: the phrase is not clearly defined.
In public health, there is no single “best” method for every question. A randomized trial may be right for one question.
Interviews, policy analysis, implementation research, community-led evaluation, or real-world data may be right for another.

The strongest science is not always the most controlled science. The strongest science is the science that fits the question, respects the people affected, and helps us make better decisions.

Our latest piece looks at what this proposed guidance could mean for public health funding, equity, and scientific independence.

New federal grant guidance invokes “Gold Standard Science,” but the phrase is poorly defined. Public health needs methods that fit real-world questions

The resurgence of measles in the U.S., with over 1,900 confirmed cases reported in 2026 alone, highlights critical gaps in vaccination coverage and outbreak management.

With decreasing MMR vaccine rates among kindergartners and pockets of unvaccinated populations, enhanced surveillance and targeted public health interventions are urgently needed to maintain herd immunity and prevent further outbreaks.

This underscores the importance of policy efforts focused on improving vaccine access and community engagement.

Big changes are coming to Medicaid cost sharing under the 2025 reconciliation law.

For the first time, states will be required to charge fees to adults on Medicaid expansion, potentially raising their out-of-pocket costs and creating new barriers to coverage. Early evidence links such cost sharing to reduced use of care and worse health outcomes, especially among those with chronic conditions. This shift could deepen health inequities for vulnerable populations.

Learn more about how these policies might impact access and affordability.

This brief explains current Medicaid cost sharing rules and changes made to cost sharing rules by the 2025 reconciliation law, reports on cost sharing amounts states currently impose on ACA expansion adults, and highlights literature on the impact of cost sharing.
