Long overdue birth vlog for baby boy #2 🩵

7 hours total of my premature labor and birth. I was my own doula this time with the amazing assistance of my dear husband (who left his overnight shift after working 10 of the 12hours). This birth brought extra sense of anxiety but also peace. Anxiety bc he was coming earlier than expected. Peace bc I knew what to expect and how bring him into this world safely and calmly. The labor comb and deep breathing helped as each contraction picked up. At around 12pm I asked to be checked to see how dilated I was and what station baby boy was in. The midwife checked and said “8cm and +2”. I was relieved but also knew we had some more progress to make. So I had the nurse help me get into flying cowgirl and I kid you not, 5 minutes later I was ready to push. Two contractions later and baby boy was earthside. I DID THE DAMN THING AGAIN!!!! Unmedicated!!!

Blessed and grateful to have attended the FIRST Pennsylvania Statewide Maternal Health Summit 💜

It was a memorable experience to be able to connect with and learn from others invested in maternal and infant health. It reminded me of why I do this work day in and day out as a doula and the Director of the Diversifying Doulas Initiative. ✨

We have come so far but there is still soooo much more work to be done. And it all starts with investing in YOUR community! 📍

Welcome baby boy!!! This one was extra special to me✨

My little cousin became a mom! 🥹 And I had the honor to help her and her support team prep for this new journey of parenthood. They all put to use the information, tools and energy we talked about prior. I couldn’t be prouder of her and her team! ❤️

As we wrap up Black Maternal Health Week 2025, I can’t help but to feel grateful to do this work on daily basis and help birthing people of color feel empowered, safe, and capable. Our bodies were built to birth. We are not broken, the system is broken. ✊🏽
