Why does muscle matter?
When most people start a weight loss journey, they focus on the number on the scale. But what you're losing matters just as much as how much you're losing.
Muscle isn't just for athletes—it's one of the most metabolically active tissues in your body. Healthy muscle helps you:
💪 Burn more calories at rest
⚖️ Support a healthy metabolism
🩸 Improve blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity
🦴 Maintain strength, balance, and bone health
❤️ Stay active and independent as you age
During weight loss, it's normal to lose some muscle along with body fat. The goal is to minimize muscle loss while maximizing fat loss.
You can help preserve muscle by:
🥩 Eating enough protein throughout the day
🏋️ Strength training at least 2–3 times per week
🚶 Staying physically active
😴 Prioritizing quality sleep
👩⚕️ Following a medically supervised weight loss plan when appropriate
At Hillcrest Medical Weight Loss, we don't just focus on helping you lose weight—we help you lose fat while protecting your muscle for healthier, long-lasting results.
