This year our PTA has set out to promote kindness, friendship and inclusion on campus! To kick off this initiative, they will use funds raised from this year’s BoosterThon Fun Run to purchase booths for the cafeteria. These neat little booths will allow students to earn the opportunity to dine with friends in a small group, at special tables! These booths will also be able to provide space for families to eat together with their kiddos when the weather doesn’t permit the use of the family picnic tables outside. We are super excited about adding these Buddy Booths to our cafe!

Morning Drop-Off Rules & Procedures:
1. If you are dropping off your student, you must park in a
designated parking spot, and walk your student to the
school entrance, using a designated crosswalk.
*Students may not be dropped off anywhere in the
parking lots and walk themselves to the school
entrance.
2. All cars must be parked in a designated parking spot.
Cars may not be parked in the grass, against the curbs,
or sidewalks. There is ample parking on the south side
of the building and limited parking in the front of the
building.
3. Handicapped parking spots are reserved for families
with legal permits. We have several handicapped
students that are driven to school daily.
4. If you are not walking your student to the school
entrance and/or class, you must wait in the Car drop-
off line.

Safety is our #1 priority at COES. Thank you for helping to keep our students and staff safe every day!

Here is another change for this year. Please be mindful of the weather on days you are planning to visit with your student.

Parents, just a reminder that if you are planning to eat lunch with your student, please pay close attention to the weather. Due to our large student size and minimum space in our cafeteria, parents and students are asked to eat outside at one of our many picnic tables. Patio umbrellas have been ordered and should be arriving any day. Rainy days are no exception, so please plan accordingly.

This is an explanation about the new "treat" policy that was sent out. We are still clarifying what this means for parents that are eating lunch with their students (and whether they are allowed to bring in outside food).

CHANGES IN STUDENT REWARDS & CELEBRATIONS...
Foods for student celebrations, birthdays, and parties often include unhealthy choices such as donuts, candy, cookies, pizza and soda. Our School Board’s Wellness Policy and Procedures 8510 were recently updated to comply with USDA Local School Wellness Policy requirements and celebration and/or reward food items must now meet USDA Smart Snack Standards and be prepared in a commercial kitchen. We strongly encourage the use of non-food items, however the cafeteria has a variety of Smart Snack compliant products available for purchase.

Parents, you can no longer bring cupcakes, candy, pizza, cake, donuts, etc...The Alliance for a Healthier Generation Smart Food Planner provides a link to Smart Snack compliant products available through Amazon as well as a calculator to check your food labels for compliance.
