Melody earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M and furthered her education with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UT Southwestern. Melody evaluates and treats patients of all ages with a variety of diagnoses, including orthopedic, oncologic (with emphasis on breast cancer and head and neck cancer), Bell’s palsy, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ impairments)

, vestibular conditions, & concussions. Melody has 7 years of experience treating in a hospital based outpatient clinic and has certifications in ReVital Oncology Rehabilitation Program, Concussion Rehabilitation, and Certified Trigger Point Dry Needling. Melody grew up playing a variety of sports in the DFW area with her main focus being soccer and basketball. She continues to play soccer with her husband for fun! Melody enjoys spending time after work with her daughter and son. She has always had an interest in the medical field and a fascination with how the human body works leading her to her calling of being a Physical Therapist. PhysioFix and Restore allows her the flexibility to be able to prioritize her clients and her family. Being a Lantana resident gives her the ability to treat in proximity to her clients in the Lantana/Flower Mound community.

How can a physical therapist help me if I am dizzy or off balance?

👀 Screening: A physical therapist can screen your history and symptoms to see if you can be treated in physical therapy or a referral to a otolaryngologist is required.
💪🏻Evaluation: A physical therapist will evaluate your vestibular system, musculoskeletal system, and neurological system to reveal imbalances to determine the best course of treatment for your symptoms.
🏃‍♀️Treatments: Physical therapists provide a wide variety of vestibular treatments including, but not limited to: BPPV repositioning maneuvers (like the Epley maneuver), habituation (movement training), adaptation (dynamic vision training), optokinetic training (stability in visually overstimulating environments), nervous system calming techniques, neck stabilization, and more. 📚 Education: Knowledge is power when it comes to managing symptoms. A PT can tell you about the recovery process for your disorder, when to push yourself and when to rest, how to manage flare-ups, how to optimize your rehab, and if a referral to a specialist might be needed.

If sit-ups feel harder than they should… you’re probably skipping the progression.

Start by building control with partial curls.
Use assistance to learn the full movement without compensating.
As strength improves, challenge stability and gradually work toward full sit-ups with control.
Each step builds on the last, improving strength, coordination, and core control.

If I had a dollar for every time someone with dizziness has said “I found the Epley maneuver on YouTube or social media…”

Dizziness is not “one size fits all”. So, if you have dizziness, you need a comprehensive examination of your vestibular system before a treatment plan is made. The Epley maneuver is a repositioning maneuver for the diagnosis Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), in which you have otoliths (or crystals) stuck in one of the semicircular canals in your inner ear.

It MIGHT be OK for you to perform the Epley maneuver on your own if you 1) have been diagnosed with BPPV by a medical professional using the Dix Hallpike test to determine which ear is affected 2) have been thoroughly educated how to perform, how often, and when to return to office, etc. 3) you are not at risk of falling or injury due to disorientation 4) you do not have a medical diagnosis that is a contraindication to the Epley maneuver (like Carotid artery stenosis or a cervical spine disorder).

The Epley maneuver is not effective at treating all types of dizziness. Additionally, if you do not have knowledge of the laterality or prior experience with the maneuver, you may cause the crystals to “convert” or fall into another canal.

If you have episodes of vertigo, the world spinning around you, with changes in position such as getting in/out of bed, rolling in bed, bending over, or looking up - get an evaluation by an ENT or physical therapist to help diagnose your problem. Schedule now! You do not have to live this way.
