Self-Care Sunday 🌿

This is your reminder that rest is productive.

You do not have to earn your right to slow down.
You do not have to wait until you’re burned out to care for yourself.
You do not have to carry everything alone.

Today, give your nervous system a break.

Take a walk.
Drink your water.
Stretch your body.
Take a nap.
Read a book.
Pray.
Meditate.
Sit in silence.

The world will still be there tomorrow.

Protect your peace.
Honor your body.
Choose yourself today.

"Toshia, the medication is helping, but I don't want to depend on it forever."

I hear some version of this almost every week.

And my answer is always the same: the medication isn't the problem. But it can't be the only plan.

Anti-anxiety medication can quiet the alarm. It can bring your nervous system down from a 9 to a 4. It can give you the first real sleep you've had in months. That matters.

But if you're not building skills while the medication is holding the door open, what happens when you're ready to walk through it on your own?

I wrote about this; why somatic healing, breathwork, and mindfulness need to happen WHILE you're on medication, not after. Why the calm the medication creates is a training ground, not a finish line.

Your nervous system was never designed to survive concrete, notifications, stress, and survival mode 24/7. 🌲

Nature slows the mind down. The sound of water, the movement of trees, fresh air, sunlight… all of it signals safety to the body. Research continues to show that spending time in nature can help lower cortisol, reduce anxiety, regulate the nervous system, improve mood, and support heart and brain health.

Sometimes healing isn’t another productivity hack.
Sometimes it’s a quiet porch, a warm fire, deep breaths, and finally feeling safe enough to rest.

Dancing with someone safe does more than feel good 🤍

Movement, rhythm, touch, and emotional connection can help release endorphins and serotonin, calm the nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and create a sense of emotional safety within the body.

Even the heartbeat can begin to synchronize through connection, rhythm, and co-regulation.

The world feels heavy right now.
People are overwhelmed, overstimulated, grieving, financially stressed, emotionally exhausted, and trying to survive systems that were never built with their wellbeing in mind.

So if all you did today was breathe, rest, cry, pray, regulate, or make it through the day… that is enough.

You do not have to carry the entire world on your nervous system.

Protect your peace.
Protect your body.
Protect your mind.

And remember: softness is not weakness. Rest is not laziness. Joy is not betrayal.

Your nervous system deserves safety too 🌿
