SAVE THIS POST FOR THE NEXT TIME ANXIETY TRIES TO TAKE YOU OUT OF THE GAME! 👊🏽💥
What we resist, persists… So ask yourself, are you battling anxiety, trying to shove it aside, or numb it out? If so, here’s some truth: resisting only intensifies the very thing we’re trying to avoid. 🙅🏻♀️
But what does anxiety feel like in the body? Sometimes it’s hard to recognize because it can be subtle or show up in unexpected ways, like:
*A tightness in the chest or throat
*That pit in your stomach or "butterfly" feeling, but not the good kind
*A racing heart, sweaty palms, or a buzzing sensation
*Muscle tension, like clenched fists or a locked jaw
*Feeling restless, like you’re on edge but can’t quite place why
If any of this sounds familiar, here’s what I guide my clients to do when anxiety shows up: ⬇️
1️⃣ Name It, Don’t Shame It – Anxiety is just a sensation in the body. Drop any judgment about feeling this way—it doesn’t mean something’s wrong with you. Check in: on a scale of 1-10, how intense does it feel?
2️⃣ Breathe Like You Mean It – Take a deep breath in through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth 🌬️ like you’re blowing through a straw. This steady, controlled breathing helps calm your nervous system.
3️⃣ Feel It to Free It – Tune in to where you feel this sensation most in your body. Is it heavy, tight, swirling? Observe it as you would a curious sensation, without judging.
4️⃣ Sit With It (I Dare You!) – Breathe gently into that area for 2 minutes. Notice if anything shifts. If it’s still lingering, give yourself another round. 🧘🏽♀️
💡 Did you know? Neuroscience shows it takes just 90 seconds for a wave of emotion to pass—as long as we’re not clinging to the story around it. How amazing is that?
So no more:
✨ Letting anxiety take you down
✨ Believing in self-doubt or inner criticism
✨ Wrestling with yourself to “just get over it” so you can show up fully
Shift that energy—one mindful breath at a time.
