Most of you know that I’ve proudly been a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for over 12 years now….over those 12 years, my life has changed immensely - marriage, moves, deaths and illness (just to mention a bit of the super crazy that my life has entailed!!😆♥️)
But TODAY is a special day…the 60th anniversary of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Mary Kay opened the doors on Friday, the 13th of September, 1963. Why did she open that day? Because it was the day the lease began.
In honor of Mary Kay's 60th Anniversary, here are 7 things you should know about Mary Kay.
1. Pink was NOT her favorite color. The color for the packaging was chosen (mountain laurel) because it would stand out in the popular all-white bathrooms in the 60's.
2. The pink Cadillac was ALMOST a Lincoln 😲! In the 60's, it was uncommon for a woman to try to buy a car without her husband. The man at the Lincoln dealership told her to bring her husband with her and then they'd look at the paperwork...so she walked across the street to the Caddy Dealership and the rest is history!
Mary Kay has the largest fleet of company vehicles on the road in the ENTIRE WORLD! They range from Chevrolet, Cadillac, Range Rover, Mazda, Mini Cooper, Volkswagen, Ford, and Mercedes.
3. Mary Kay is family-owned and run, keeping Mary Kay’s original values of God first, family second, and career third, plus the Golden Rule.
4. Mary Kay manufacturing facilities have a ZERO LANDFILL STATUS and the company has planted over ONE MILLION trees. Our packing peanuts are also biodegradable.
5. The Mary Kay Ash Foundation is an organization that has donated more than $55 million to women's shelters across the nation to help women affected by domestic violence and also has donated more than $36.5 million to research fighting cancers affecting women.
6. Mary Kay has over 1600 global patents. 39 products and counting have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, the most recognized consumer emblem in the US.
7. Mary Kay is the #1 direct selling brand in the world. Up to 1.1 million products are produced each day at its manufacturing facility in Dallas, TX. An active Mary Kay consultant can earn a 50% profit on sales.
* Only the top 1% of the Mary Kay independent sales force earns the use of a career car through their Mary Kay business.
