Speech Works by Elissa, LLC uses a Lovaas influenced curriculum and structure with an emphasis on auditory and motor planning skills. Skills are taught using a repetitive and structured format in adherence with discrimination-learning procedures, including systematic introduction of prompts that are faded over time as skills are acquired. Generalization strategies across people, environments, stimuli and instruction are introduced following evidence of discrimination (i.e. as skills permit). Behavior-specific praise and differential reinforcement are delivered during instruction. Anecdotal data and discrete trial data are taken as necessary.

For over 30 years, I’ve specialized in Apraxia of Speech… and I still can’t believe how many parents have never heard the term.

Here’s what many families don’t know…

Research suggests that up to 64% of autistic children may also have characteristics consistent with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), especially minimally speaking or nonspeaking children. Research is still ongoing to better understand the connection between autism and apraxia.

So, what is Apraxia?

Apraxia is a motor planning disorder. The brain knows what it wants to say, but has difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech.

And it doesn’t just affect speech.

Motor planning challenges can impact coordination, feeding, imitation, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, and everyday movement.

Motor planning challenges can impact so much more than just talking.

MAMA… do you know how important you are to your child? 🤍

Some days you may feel exhausted. Defeated. Like no matter how hard you try, progress feels slow.

You wonder if they will talk.
You wonder if they understand.
You wonder if you’re doing enough.

But what if I told you… YOU are one of the most powerful pieces of your child’s success story.

The way you fight for them.
The way you learn.
The way you advocate.
The way you never stop believing in them… even on the hard days.

Your child may not always have the words to tell you right now, but your love, your consistency, and your strength matter more than you know.

Every repetition.
Every little practice moment.
Every tear.
Every celebration over the smallest milestone.

It matters.

And please hear me when I say this… never give up hope.

Progress is not always fast. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it looks different than expected. But children can surprise us when we learn how THEY learn.

To every mama carrying the weight of the world while loving their child fiercely…

Happy Mother’s Day 🤍

You are stronger than you know. And your child is lucky to have you.

Parents, this one’s for you. 💙

I’m thrilled to share that my story and mission will be featured in the upcoming docuseries streaming this spring 2026 on Inside Success TV. 🎬✨

This episode isn’t just about me. It’s about you, the parents who’ve been told your child may “never talk” or “never live independently.” I know how heavy those words feel. But I also know there’s another path forward.

In my Legacy Makers episode, I’ll be sharing:
✔️ Why small wins matter more than milestones
✔️ How root cause speech therapy can unlock breakthroughs
✔️ Real families who turned hopelessness into hope
✔️ Affordable, practical tools you can start using today

My life’s work is to help you believe again, to show you that your child has potential waiting to be unlocked. And when parents are given the right tools, everything changes.

This is bigger than an episode. It’s a movement to give every child a voice and a chance to thrive. 💙

Stay tuned for the release this spring. Together, we can change what’s possible.
