Congrats on 11 Years in recovery to another one of our own Allison A.
"When I look back at this past year, I realize sobriety has been about so much more than simply not picking up a drink or a drug. It has been about growth, surrender, healing, and learning how to live life on life's terms.
This year also brought some incredibly difficult moments, especially walking beside my dad through his cancer diagnosis and additional health challenges. I've had to face emotions I didn't always want to face. I'm learning to let go of hate, anger, and resentment—not because what happened didn't matter, but because carrying those things was keeping me from fully living. I'm learning that forgiveness and letting go are gifts I give myself.
I'm learning to love others without losing myself, put myself first without feeling guilty, and allow other people to do the same. I'm learning to step back and let the people I love walk their own paths, make their own choices, and experience their own journeys. I don't have to control their outcomes to love them.
Eleven years ago, I couldn't have imagined the life I'm living today. There have been trials, heartbreak, growth, laughter, tears, vacations, family struggles, accomplishments, and countless lessons.
But through it all, I'm still here. Still sober. Still learning. Still growing. Still becoming the person I'm meant to be.
11 years sober. 11 years of choosing life. 11 years of learning that I don't have to control everything to be okay." 💛
