Unlike waxing where you’re supposed to grow your hair out, laser requires you to shave the night before. This is because light travels down the shaft of the hair to paralyze the follicles. If the hair is too long it has further to travel and could just end up burning the hair strand.
Coming in with your hair grown out causes a few problems. First, time is wasted while you’re shaving in the office and could lead to less areas being treated. Second, the shave is never as close as when you do it at home, I guarantee you’ll miss spots. Third, you’re more likely to have superficial cuts that normally wouldn’t make you bleed but the moment the laser hits it, you’ll bleed. Lastly, it makes a mess!
So word to the wise, do not come into your laser hair removal appointment with hair grown out unless you’ve been instructed to do so. If you feel like you need to show your practitioner, take a photo and then shave.
