I met David 18 years ago at a psytrance party in Los Angeles. At the time, I had a boyfriend who later became my husband, and together we had two amazing daughters. Life continued, and David and I followed our own separate paths. Throughout the years, we remained connected indirectly through mutual friends from our psytrance family.
Six years ago, I got divorced. Three years ago, I attended a psytrance festival at Red Marines in Northern California, and that is where David and I reconnected. This time, we were both ready.
On the first night of the festival, we sat together on a swing and talked for three hours. The next day, we went for a walk to explore nature, continuing to share our stories and get to know each other on a deeper level. On the last day, before David left to go home, he came and sat beside me and asked me to save my phone number in his phone. From that point on, we could hardly be apart. I lived in Las Vegas, and David lived in Nevada City, California. As we often said, we wanted to respect everyone’s nervous systems—ours and my daughters’.
After a year of long-distance love, David moved to Las Vegas and we moved in together.
We have now been living together for over a year. Last weekend, we attended a psytrance celebration marking 20 years of Psytribe. It was an incredible reunion filled with friends and memories from across the years. On Saturday, David surprised me. He gathered our friends and took us to a beautiful sunset viewpoint.
There, surrounded by the people we love, he got down on one knee and proposed. I had waited my whole life for a man like David. Over the years, I did so much healing and inner work to become ready for the love I truly wanted. David did the same. We found each other again when we were both prepared to receive the kind of love we had always hoped for.
Sometimes the right person arrives twice first as a possibility, and later as a destiny.
And now, we get to spend the rest of our lives together.
