The Richardson retractor is a staple for exposure.

Its effectiveness comes down to proper placement and controlled tension, providing consistent visualization without unnecessary strain on tissue.

We've all seen some creative lateral positioning setups over the years.

What I like about the BoneFoam Leg Tunnel is that it gives you a consistent, stable platform while protecting the down leg and helping maintain proper positioning throughout the procedure. Plus, it straps directly to the bed, so everything stays where it's supposed to.

Sometimes the best positioning solutions are the ones that make the complicated look easy.

You're not supposed to feel ready.

Growth happens in the stretch. Lean into it, learn fast, and trust the reps will catch up.

The little details matter.

When assembling a Thompson blade onto the handle, I always make sure the adjustment k**b is facing up before passing it to the surgeon. That simple step allows the blade angle to be adjusted after it's attached to the frame. Saving time and avoiding unnecessary repositioning.

Understanding the equipment is one thing. Understanding how to make it work efficiently for your surgeon is where experience co es in.

What's your favorite Thompson Tip?

Asepto = quick squeeze irrigation

The Asepto syringe remains a practical tool in the OR for quick irrigation and fluid management. Simple design, but highly effective in maintaining efficiency during procedures.

In a total hip arthroplasty, mallet selection matters.

I've seen a bigger mallet used when seating the cup into the acetabulum where the smaller one is used when broaching the femoral canal.

What mallet do you use?

Positioning matters more than people realize.

I got to demo the BoneFoam Shark positioning solution, and honestly... this setup is SMART. From stability and pressure redistribution to overall patient support, you can tell it was designed by people who truly understand the OR workflow.

As someone who has spent years in surgery, I love seeing products that don't just "work," but actually make positioning safer, smoother, and more efficient for the team.

Little details make a BIG difference in the OR.

The Gelpi retractor, when placed deeper, can significantly improve exposure, but it requires careful technique.

Proper placement balances visibility with tissue protection, avoiding unnecessary trauma while maintaining access.

It's a reminder that depth and control go hand in hand.

If you're waiting to be told... you're already behind.
Stay 3 steps ahead. Always.
Anticipation is one of the most valuable skills in the OR.

Knowing the next step before it's asked improves efficiency, supports the surgeon, and keeps the case flowing safely.
