That cuff on her thigh? It’s blood flow restriction (BFR) training. 👇

🔹 What it is: A small cuff, set to a pressure that’s right for you, that limits how much blood flows back out of the working muscle. It never fully shuts blood flow off.

🔹 Why it works: Light loads with BFR can build strength and muscle similar to heavy lifting, which is great when you’re not ready for heavy loading yet.

🔹 Why we use it in rehab: She’s rehabbing her ankle, and the muscles above it stay active while the injury gets the protection it needs.

🔹 Who it’s for: Not everyone. We screen your health history and blood pressure first, and a DPT sets it up.

Our awesome patient, Jerah, let us share a bit of her story! See the cuff that Dr. Erica placed on Jerah's upper thigh? We're using it for blood flow restriction (BFR) training! 👇

While she rehabs her ankle, she’s pedaling light and keeping her leg muscles working, with BFR doing the ~heavy lifting~

What the heck is BFR? A small, specialized cuff goes around the upper thigh or upper arm. It’s inflated to limit how much blood flows. It’s not a tourniquet, and it never shuts blood flow off completely.

Why use it? Research shows that exercising with BFR at very light loads can build strength and muscle, similar to what you’d normally need heavy weight to do.

Why we like it for rehab: it lets us keep your muscles strong and active when your body isn’t ready for heavy loading yet, while the injured area (like this ankle) gets the protection it needs to heal.

Curious whether BFR could help your recovery? We’ll look at your injury, your goals, and what’s holding you back, one-on-one.

you probably haven't tried this yet... your shoulder pain needs more than a couple light exercises to heal.

Stiff back before lunch? Blechh! Here are 5 things we'd start with. 👇

☝️Change positions every 20-30 minutes. Your best posture is your next one, so stand, shift, or walk for a minute.

✌️ Walk every day. Even 10 minutes helps. Your spine likes movement, and a short walk is the easiest place to start.

👌 Give your hips and mid-back some love. When they get stiff, your low back picks up the slack. Try 5 slow reps of hip circles or seated rotations.

🖖 Build strength where it counts. Strong glutes and core help your back handle long drives, long days, and long rounds on the course.

🖐️ Don't treat pain as damage. Stiffness is usually your body asking for movement, not a sign that something is broken.

If your back still feels tight after trying these, there's usually a "why" behind it. That's what we dig into one-on-one at Pillar Kinetic. Book your free 15-minute phone consult. Link in bio.
