🚑🩸🔬 SWAG at Ellis Medicine Weeks 4 & 5 were packed with hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences!

During Week 4, our students became lifesavers through Stop the Bleed training, learning critical emergency response skills and how to take action in high-pressure situations. 💪⛑️

In Week 5, students stepped into the world of Clinical Lab Science with the amazing team from the Wadsworth Center! 🧪 They explored the science behind laboratory medicine and even extracted DNA from strawberries 🍓🧬 — proving that healthcare careers can be both fascinating and fun!

We love seeing our Student Athletes with Academic Goals continue to build skills, confidence, and explore the many paths within healthcare careers. 👏

Week 3 of SWAG at Ellis Medicine is in the books! 🧠💬

This week, we focused on teen mental health—an incredibly important topic, especially for student athletes balancing academics, sports, and everything in between. Students explored how mental health impacts performance, learned ways to recognize and manage stress, and had meaningful conversations about breaking the stigma.

We also highlighted the wide range of careers in the mental health field, opening students’ eyes to the many paths available to support others—from counseling and psychology to social work and beyond.

So proud of this group for showing up, being open, and supporting one another. 💙

Cohosted with ACPHS, Russell Sage College, and Albany Medical College, students and families heard from a diverse panel of healthcare professionals and had the chance to ask their own questions during an engaging Q&A.

Week 2 of our SWAG (Student Athletes with Academic Goals) program at Ellis Medicine was all about exploring the many different pathways into healthcare—and showing students that there’s more than one way to get there! 🩺✨

This week, students had the opportunity to learn inside the SUNY Schenectady County Community College Mobile Lab, where they were introduced to careers that require shorter-term training like EKG Technician, CNA, LPN, and PCA. We talked about how these roles can be powerful starting points that lead into advanced careers such as nursing, medical imaging, physician assistant, and beyond! They even learned how to do EKG's!

Students also put their communication skills to the test in a fun (and eye-opening!) activity that showed how the same directions can be interpreted in completely different ways—an important lesson for future healthcare professionals.

Lastly, they worked through a real-world scenario that highlighted just how many different healthcare roles come together to care for one patient. It was a great reminder that every role matters, and teamwork is at the heart of healthcare!

We’re excited to see these students continue to grow and explore what’s possible in their future careers 💙

🏥✨ SWAG Program Kickoff! ✨🏥

We’re excited to share that week ONE of our SWAG (Student Athletes with Academic Goals) program is officially in the books! 💪📚

This 6-week speaker series, cohosted with Ellis Medicine, is designed for high school student-athletes who are interested in exploring careers in healthcare—and we’re off to an amazing start!

This week, students dove into the world of Occupational Therapy 🧠🖐️ They learned about how OTs help patients regain independence in their daily lives and got hands-on experience practicing safe patient transfers from one position to another.

Students also worked through real-life scenarios, thinking critically about how to support patients with different needs—just like healthcare professionals do every day! 👏

We can’t wait to see what the next five weeks bring as our students continue to grow, learn, and explore their future in healthcare! 🌟
